well let me see i can watch demoscene tv straight away or i can log in go through loads of fckng shit and watch your channel bit by bit
?

well i think my mind is made-up

no disrespect nork/trace stuff is pretty good
stuff that ive seen but theres loads of these channels setting up trying to become 'popular' to sceners

why not just link to demoscene.tv like telemate.tv are and be done with it
the scene will never re-group away from its core unless its at a demo party

my 2p

why are you doing it trace?

very nice content !

We need to see more innovation for demoscene "content channels" (whatever the fsck that means)... I'd like to see a live streamed "scene show" with a presenter talking about current scene news, showing some demos, commenting on them etc. Pre-set streamed vidcaps are fine and nice, but as a whole the scene needs to keep looking for the "next cool thing". That's not just in democode, but in all scene productions and services.

I'd like to see a live streamed 'scene show' where a presenter, dressed in a suit and tie, attempts to present 'scene news' while sceners dump paint on him, burn the stage, show movies of the presenter being woken up in the middle of the night to a bullhorn playing very, very loud and obnoxious YM tunes, and live puking contests.

This will naturally be different each time, as the presenter will have to at least get a new suit for each episode.

But above all, this will be far more innovative than copying Telivision's Nightly News! With Blake Bunghole and Theresa Titwell. And now, sports with Okkie BASSelhoff.
trace: can you explain to me the difference between "motiongraphics" and "animation"?

Other than the former being a marketing term coined by apple for their motion product, I'm not seeing the difference.

I guess motiongraphics is fancier.
Like:
"I'm an animator."
-"Big deal. I'm make graphics that have motion! I'm a business man, I make powerpoint thingys."

legalize: trace certainly has a proper explanation for you, but in the meantime i try to help out with the shit i know:

'motiongraphics' of course is 'animation'. but since 'animation' is a very unspecific term by now (covering anything from handdrawn 2D animation, stop motion animation, 3D animation, visual effects etc.) the term 'motiongraphics' is used by motion designers for animation with a strong graphic design approach and came up along with the new media rush, when professional graphic designers started playing around with after effects. so 'motiongraphics' can actually be considered 'animated graphic design', that usually works only visually / aesthetically and doesn't rely on storytelling (which most 'animations' do). so basically 'demos' are 'motiongraphics', too. which is the reason why trace added them there (which remained unappreciated / unsupported by sceners, unfortunately).

anyway, it's worth to check out the 'motions' there. xplsv.tv hosts some of the greatest pieces of motiongraphics for us to suck on. the stuff might not be realtime, but their visual excellence and beauty often is as mindblowing as our code is ;) . and xplsv.tv's navigation, interface and especially the immediate "watch" button def. rocks pouet.net kaputt anyway ;) . thanks for the serve, trace!

Again, thanks for the support monroe. I think your definition about motiongraphics is quite good and I hope legalize will be able to understand it. Nowadays there is a lot of demoscene productions inspired by what the people is doing with After Effects. So the idea of mixing all in one is more than clear to me.

Thanks for the kind comments of the others anyway. Some people here still need to learn to respect others work. And mainly I just want to show the demoscene art to people that may be interested.

motiongraphics, machinima... whats next?

why not just call them "productions" or "works"?

ah because they're nu media artists with macs and art school training...

uncle-x: macs, pcs, amiga, atari, psp ... what's next? why not just call them "computers" or "electronic calculating machines"?

uh, this allergy to anything non-demoscene still gives me the chills sometimes ... and i know it shouldn't, bc it's so very demoscene :) .

Maybe because the psp is considered a console rather than a computer...?
why not call them "rrfftsassss"!!!

monroe: as your description already stated, "motiongraphics" is a rather recently coined (and 'artificial') term, and i just do not like it. it feels as a degrading label if attached to some piece of art, in my opinion.

ps. mac, amiga, atari, psp are proprietary commercial brand names and in my opinion not at all useful in this context. Unless you want to label "motiongraphics" as a proprietary commercial brand (which it already sounds like, to me).

Well, I knew the demoscene mentality was always quite closed buy I didn't expect that one of the most graphic/motion creative (uncle-x) guys around was going to show that kind of mentality too.

Well, if the demoscene keeps this path, we will have even more poor topics like this one (the first time I've seen that effect was 6 years ago and was just a flash, since then I've seen it in a lot of designs and motiongraphics (or animations or wilds - however you want to call them)). We just don't want to see anything else than demos (and everything we do is always the same (only moppi does good experiments, and I'm sure they're not against motiongraphics mainly because they also do motiongraphics)).

A shame.

Trace, I can provide you with a pixel-perfect MPEG-II stream for Batman Vuelve if you are interested about recoding it for the tv page.

I don't like the "motiongraphics" term either. Similar reasons to uncle-x, it feels like another cheap numedia buzz-word (like numedia itself.. ugh), and also its such a loosely defined term. Still, its useful to describe a site like xplsv.tv, and disliking the word isn't the same as disliking the content.

As to people disliking motiongraphics, I kindof agree there too. Just because its similar to a lot of what we do in the demoscene, and its good, doesn't mean its interesting to everyone. I've very little interest in demos made for platforms i have no access too, and unless its a really famous classic and a video is available, I won't bother to watch it, or look for it. Same goes for motiongraphics and machinima for me, I've seen a few, and they didn't pursuade me to keep watching.

Of course, dismissing it without trying it first is narrow minded, and as to hating a particular platform for no particular reason...

Winden, I'm not adding the works, each user links their stuff, same concept as pouet.net. I just re-encode the good ones submited to the site for the TV.

In the same way, before pouet.net there was a lot of different website were everyone was releasing the demoscene productions there was a lot of websites were the people was announcing their motiongraphics/animation works. I just wanted to do a pouet.net for that kind of productions, similar concept, more visual, and with extra stuff that pouet.net doesn't have (as isn't really hard to see). I also wanted to use the site to show the demoscene to people that could help us in the visual/design value (there are people that were in xplsv.tv that joined some demoscene teams (not because xplsv.tv tho))..

But, unfortunatelly, I depend in the rest of the scene to do it.

Thanks god there are people like monroe (I'll answer your email this weekend, I got some good ideas :D).

Ok, renamed 'motions' to 'movies'. Does it sound more friendly now? would it encourage you to submit the video version of your demos?

http://xplsv.tv/movies.php

I don't know...

Btw, if anybody likes the idea of showing they works to non-scener but creative people:

Here is a tutorial for converting a Windows demo to .MOV (h264) format. (You may like it or not, but .mov is the most extended format on that field).

Thanks guys!

yes because when you are a creative people, you have to own a mac ! ;D
after about a year or so i still don't like the term 'motiongraphics'. It feels too artificial for me. About demos on xpslv.tv: kick-ass! (and yeah, lots of the stuff on that site is cool as hell)
