freelancers needed

category: general [glöplog]
I've sent this to scene.org, but they're probably busy or don't regard it as serious. However, I may very well need you quite soon, whoever you are:

Company: Laserplus.

Web & Mail: http://www.laserkrig.com/ info@laserkrig.com

About the venture:

Laserplus is a brand within content creation and marketing. First and foremost we make music and graphics for mobiles and production companies within advertising. The brand itself is just starting up and will need more irregular staff for this phase and further operations. Our market is global and prospering. The company structure is very hypermodern and we therefore do not employ people on a regular basis. We are looking for freelancers that we aim to use on a regular basis. As stated, Laserplus is in the startup phase, but there's already a nice fat contract coming up with a mobile service provider to develop their content portofolio from scratch. It is expected that you do some free work in the beginning, but your revenues will be high since the company itself is only a brand and organiser for a highly qualified workforce. Applying for several positions is no problem. Please submit samples of your work along with your little and informal application.

Generally for all the openings:

As far as possible, you will maintain copyrights of your own work and to distribute them as you find fit. Laserplus will not copyright anything for you unless you for some reason are ineligible for this. You must have or attain status as a freelancer so you can bill us for services rendered. While you are a thinking individual, Laserplus will try to provide you with theoretical background for content creation and, help you otherwise, as much as we can.

2 PIXELERS

With small screen sizes and limited colour range, pixelers are needed to make wallpapers, themes, animations and icons. While creativity is most sought after, you must also be able to accept designs from the AD and repaint these for the appropriate medium. Experience with "newschool" painting is a big plus.

1 GRAPHIC DESIGNER

You have a bold and colourful graphic expression and will take part in building up the brand's graphic profile and templates. You will be put under the influence of the AD, but is mostly expected to come up with new ideas and cutting edge design profiles. While you may not do a lot of commissioned work, rewards will still be fruitful.

1 FLASH ANIMATOR

The emphasis will be on presentations, demos and actual commissioned work. You will work closely with the AD and graphics people. Experience with digital film processing is an absolute plus.

2 MIDI MUSICIANS

Grunt work. You must be quick and creative in converting existing music into polyphonic and superpolyphonic ringtones. Previous experience with MIDI for mobiles is prefered but no must.

1 MUSIC COMPOSER

You must master a variety of genres and be proficient in invoking atmosphere in your tracks. Packing a punch in 10-30 seconds is a must since this is mostly the format we sell in. Experience in mixing for mobile is a definitive plus.

Cheers,

reid/dominei

This is not a very convincing point, when you are hiring, expecially because "some" and "beginning" are rather vague terms :)
Anyway, I'd give a try if I hadn't a consuming full time job...

This is what it's like to be an unknown freelancer, dix. To promote yourself, you must have a portofolio. "the free work" in this case means taking part in making a decent homepage, a flash movie and build a little portifolio with content aimed at specific platforms.

I am doing most of the free work as in getting clients, marketing, handling finances, working as secretary etc etc etc. AND making things for the portofolio :)
laserplus is the new jamster!

Whoa there, mister! One of the redeeming aspects of pro (unkown being no factor) freelancing is that you can live off disproportionally high fees in meager times. Evil eyes would perceive your proposal as basically asking people to invest free time as if it's venture capital.

Considering all the failed business projects related to the scene that I have had the misfortune to accidentally witness or touch, I'm far more interested in the ones that pay up front and leave little to the imagination.

Go ahead, send me fuckings and tell me how retarded I am before reassessing where most of you get your salary or state-funded pittance ;)

considering that jamster is technically a cover-up for jamba, I wonder how that translates into norwegian business scams -though I can think of many ways ;)

nah :)

This is a break for people who do other things in life too. Again, the free work is nothing but taking part in building a nice site, make a few demos etc. The moment anything is sold, the maker would get the money right away.

I'd love to pay cash up front, but the moment this becomes somehwat like a regular company, the entire point is broken. The idea is to have a brand that don't have any expenses so that people can receive the actual money for what they do.

Actually both are "coverups" for VeriSign, so...

So basically you don't have anything, but would like others to contribute for free, and then if you manage to sell anything, there is hope of getting some money back.

Sounds like a cool deal? I don't think so.
I've been subcontracting for the last 5 years and I consider these kind of offers similar to "MORE-SIZE - when kids aren't home. NB: No prescription required" kind of offers that drop in by mail daily. But of course, I make program code not art...

How to start a company:

a) Start company with money, invest in products or other companies. If invest in product, hire worker.

b) Start company as a sect or cult. Dont sell or do anything, just be around, let people feed you with money. Being it products, cash or whats so ever.

I would say forming a company such as b) would be great profit.. However, its quite rare its acctually successfull..

mri: Like I said, I contribute most of the free work in the first place. I can't do everthing myself :)

I've made sales and I'm making sales. However, I have to up the ante to be able to live off this and get fat as well. Teaming up with others sounds like a good starting point. together, we can take larger contracts etc.

don't twist this into a suspicious affair. If I wanted to rip off people, I wouldn't have gone to the scene in the first place.
I don't think you are trying to rip off people, I think you don't have enought working experience.

I'm 27 and have worked for many years. Including large budget project management and as a freelancer.

This isn't full time for everyone all the time, but it's a start. An opportunity for myself and other sceners to do what we like and make some money on it. Hopefully a living when it comes to that.

No investors = no nagging and no bankrupcy.
and no employees :P

OK, if you are serious about this, I just have one suggestion for you. Start your business with a few of your close friends, who are in on the deal (equal partners) from the very start; win or loose. Work your ass off (for free) to build up a base for the company. When (if) things starts rolling, others will see that and want to join in on your "brand".
At the moment I kind of get the feeling you start in the wrong end.

Basically, you are offering others to do freelancing work for you, for, initially free, with hopes to get money when (if) it's sold, while you get a part of it.

Why would a freelancer want to do all that? They can make the stuff, sell them, and get 100% of the money when (if) it gets sold.
People works for other companies (yours, in this case) for money -or- build their company and start doing self-promoting.
You are asking them to do -your- promoting and not giving anything back.

I think that's far from being attractive, but that's my oppinion only.

mr laser does not just want to sell your shit and get a quick buck, he want's (as far as i can see) to set up a community alike website/company/brandname where people can release their stuff under. If this name gets known a little and you are affected to this, you, as freelancer will easier sell your crappy ringtones or stupid wallpapers with chickens on it.

did i get this right Twist McLaserson?

If you bill Laserplus, I guess they (Laserplus) will have to bill the customer, and, as the very least, that take time and taxes... one would also expect a "comission" per work ;-)

It's just having an intermediary, or, using "Laserplus" as a commercial selling your work... but if that implies I have to work for free on the start... well, one would usually find easier to get some small funding and hire a commercial, while getting 100% of the billing in the future.

OF COURSE, I'm not implying this offer should not be "tasty" for others... that's just the way -I- see it... I have a quite "stormy" life, in what it refers to work and jobs :)
