it's not particularly like the usa is a hell hole

it isn't?

- no liberal softdrugs policy
- no alcohol <21
- few windmills
- few tulips
- expensive cheese

and on top of all that, it's close to canada too- sure sounds like a hell hole to me... :)

but they have buffy the vampire slayer!
Gee, another pilgrimage party thread turned into USA bashing.

Hey Eurotrash, STFU.

It's not like we're over here "Oh, breakpoint... I wouldn't go there, those guys had Nazis! How can they live there?"

troll, actually this was maybe the first pilgrimage thread that turned into a nice and friendly (though off topic) discussion rather than bashing.

if you read closely, you can actually see that nobody has been bashing at all. (no, not havoc either. try harder.)

Still it would be something to see a demoparty being shutdown by the Police one day, we almost got there on Scene Event :-)

Yeah, but Nazi-Germany and the actuall Germany are two different countries with different structures.

And to be even more serious: It sucks when you want to go to another country and the first what happens at the border (or airport) is you're treated like a terrorist or some other criminal. The data they have from you, the observation of you ("You're a student? Ok, that means you could be a terrorist as well!"), the partial lose of your own rights,... Some days ago I was in a non-EU country with some mates and a foreign car, we took the border checks with humour, but it could've become worse. And let's face it - demopartys work, because people respect each other, forget about countries/nations, religions, all the other shit and just are sceners. After reading some stories about people, who wanted to visit the US but all they saw was the airport and the backflight, I'm not sure whether I'd arrive at the party place if I'd go to pilgrimage.

Btw Eurotrash, I assume most of the pilgrimage organizers aren't Native Americans (with a history of more than just 500 years). You get my point. ;)
madenmann, stop feeding the troll.

Even more rules and info coming out of the woodwork, including a confirmed location.

http://www.utaharts.org/ is the sites page and contains the address and pertinent information.

Polaris has posts his rules for the ascii compo at http://www.northerndragons.ca/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=23&page_id=18.

Also updated rules and prize info have been posted for the music compos. http://www.knobtweakers.net/pilgrimage/rules.html.

Not even two weeks away, and no updated music compo rules on the site. Bah...

why is everyone so silent?:) i'll be there, just on my way from NY to LA, and i'm curious about what's going on with other ppl. when does the welcoming reception start?

okkie, you wanted to enter a song to the compo, well i can represent you at the party, if you still would like to compete.

Remote representation requires group affiliation, as is tradition with most parties throughout history.

I'm silent because I've been in neverending preparation for the travel there. I don't even have my mod done, guess I'll have to do it on the road.

Leaving tomorrow for the long motorcycle journey. 1500 miles of pure windblown bliss.

I envy you:) I was also thinking about buying a bike there, but it's too much trouble. my student insurance excludes motorbikes, and i'd also have to carry luggage for 3 months (that's how long i'll stay in the usa for studying). seems that i'll buy some cheap car in SLC instead.

it takes 2mins to get group affiliations btw;)

i personally think that small parties sticking dogedly to the rules like that kindof sucks, and shows a quite bad attitude.

if you got some decent quality external entries, and especially if people present were willing to put them in the compo for someone, you should be glad of the support, imo.

Maybe they don't insist on getting entries.

gem: heh, i don't have anything decent done (read: country or blues, although i am working on a country project atm, but that is FAR from finished) but thanks for offering :)

(Maali: don't get me started on that subject (: )

External entries - Ok, I'm calling bullshit on this one.

How many years did I ask for external entries to be allowed at European parties?

How many years did I hear how difficult it was, and how the rules had to be followed... etc etc etc. and how 'well gee we've never seen anything good from anyone in the Americas (IGNORING Delabu Alama, the entire South American scene, NAID, Tran and co... )

Longstanding tradition of European parties is NO EXTERNAL ENTRIES.

This 'no external entries' thing is NOT something new for Pilgrimage.

You could ALWAYS count on Australian parties for allowing external entries.

Yes, it sucks, it ALWAYS sucked, it WILL always suck. It's a good thing parties like Function are allowing external entries. More should.

But the way this was reading, it was as if this was a Pilgrimage-only issue, and believe me, it's not.

And my point here is that YOU SHOULD ACCEPT EXTERNAL SUBMISSIONS AT YOUR PARTY. Yes that means a whole mess of crap concerning what to do if an external submission wins, how to explain Rob is Ja Rig, and why your music preselection folks seem to not have had any sleep for 3 weeks. Just figure out how you will handle that and publish it... but no more of this 'the way we're gonna handle it is to just tell everyone who doesn't show up to fuck off.'

Gem/Troll: Have a killer party. Next year accept submissions from Finland (:
Any party allows external entries if you have someone there to a) submit it and b) pick up the prize. It's that easy - except that with Pilgrimage you have to have that vogon paperwork of actually inducting someone as a member.
