I think you can find alternate links to order at freax.hu - hmm, just checked, tomcat, you'll wanna update that maz-sound has it now (:

Anyway, www.maz-sound.com has it as well, and ordering appears to be in English.

And it appears they'll ship outside Europe too.
Yes, maz-sound.de also has it.

Page 77 - "Editors of Driven, Coolhand and Elvix"... should be "Elwix"

Secondly.... Driven is still alive.
http://drivenonline.org/

Driven 31 was released on June 10th.

Otherwise I'm enjoing a great read. I'll post more if I come across.

oh gotta check this one out!:)

although reading reactions it seems like the release is damn rushed! -- such a lot of trivial errors and misleading facts..:/

added on the 2005-08-29 16:03:23 by raver raver
no, no, not rushed ... hell I think Tomcat has been working on this book for 50 years.

The book itself was written in Hungarian.

This is an English version, which Tomcat wrote and submitted to someone else to correct. The corrections came back, and... well, one of the more striking corrections was 'Norwegia' - which, as we've all recently learned, is the English word for 'country next to Sveeden on the left, with a lot of Fjords.'

Tomcat trusted someone to do a better job than they did, and he didn't criticize, as noted above, because the person had a PHD in English, and Tomcat doesn't. Now, Tomcat knows next time to run it past some other folks before publication. Right, Tomcat?

As far as facts go - some of the corrections are correcting statements in interviews. You can argue that one perception is more accurate, but that's likely to be dependant upon whether or not you know the people involved, or if you were around at the time, or if you have personal involvement with the situation being discussed.
I still wonder about those "misleading facts" you've mentioned. Some details would be helpful.

since i actually didn't read the book, don't take my view for granted, i was just relating to other comments posted here // however, i'm very surprised about number of mistakes pointed out -- you're spending several years on this but not daring to check thru before it goes to print? // as about misleading facts, well if these are within interviews -- fine, but even quite few amiga scene outsiders seem to have more knowledge of EPH members and productions than showed in the book

in any case, don't take this as offence mate, i still think you're doing a great job with this, respect! -- and fortunately, everything can be corrected for next edition

I think statements in the interviews should stand. Instead, area's where people might be wrong, or others are of different ideas - those should be added in dialog after the interview.

That way we aren't twisting what was said during the interview (or piece) from a disk mag.

missleading facts:

j.o.e. slideshow 2 by scoopex was NOT the first ever amiga slideshow; by far i have no idea which one really was, but there was j.o.e. slideshow by tsk-crew before

the 3D engine for the Scoopex 40k/64k intros by Antibyte, was written by Antibyte mainly and not by Boogyman; Boogyman wrote the engines for the demos like "My Kingdom"; also the Intro Haupex has nothing to do with any Scoopex engine, it was coded by Speedo/Haujobb

well, j.o.e. slideshow 2 by scoopex was a stand-alone slideshow, while j.o.e. slideshow by tsk-crew was included on their PR-demo-disk and was only a pic by pic slide without music...

btw. i think all the ppl out there should check on the history of their groups and report about it, would really be a great help, so buy the book and check it, i want a all new errorfree reprint :)

First thing i thought while browsing the book: why so few screenshots from Ephidrena releases? If i remember correctly, there is only J'_... That is indeed a personal preference (i happen to think that Ephidrena is the best thing that ever happened to the Amiga scene) but still... Ephidrena has 27 releases on my website. I might be wrong here, but i think there isn't one screenshot from a Eph 4k? Somehow, i thought that Loaderror ruled the 4k scene for the last 6 years or so and actually achieved a lot both visually and on the music side. And yet again, there are tons of TBL screenshots...

Second point while reading: why not divide into smaller sub-sections? At some point you write "in the next chapter we will talk about..." but the chapter starts right afterwards without any heading. As it is now, it's just one very long text with some screenshots in between. It would have made the book a bit less harder to read and would also allow quick search of particular things to reread.

The third and most annoying part has to be the "foreign" english and spelling mistakes. It is quite unbelievable that this book was actually spell-checked and read by an English speaking person. It really makes the book hard to read.

However, i'm glad i have bought it. Seems a lot of research was done and i find it a great book on the Amiga scene. If ever there is a reprint, i would certainly buy it.

On page 80 you write that the cooperation between X and Takeover spitted up because the cool C64 atmosphere was broken by PC and Amiga users. There are 3 mistakes in here:

1) X'95 and X'96 was a mixed C64/PC party, so the PC users had been there from the beginning.

2) X-Takeover was a C64/PC party as well, Amiga users were not involved.

3) The reason for splitting up is wrong. At first there were plans to continue the cooperation in '98, the real reason for breaking up were organizational disagreements between Nostalgia & Success. Lack of atmosphere had nothing to do with it (although it is true that X-Takeover was a totaly different party than X'96 & X'97)
