Okey, LoadRunner at principe, is disapointed with how
to begin and we transform this, one more time, on the
eternal discution of OpenGL vs DirectX ...

Okey, i trying to help you LoadRunner:
I think is bether begining with simple effects like
plasmas, tunnel (pixel-tunnel for example),
2D deformation etc. With this simple effects you can
practice with the very usefull used SIN/COS functions.
Obiusly i don't know your knowledge of C programming
but it's very recomended a solid base of them and,
i think, a little bit of math :)
When you practice with all of them, you can
understand bether the "tricks" of graphics-oriented
programming and you can to envolve to other... API's
I don't trying to convince you to programing on
Hi level accelerated API's: If you want, you can ;)
I think is bether understanding before the "essence"
and envolve, experiment and learn about all of this :)

A major drawback to 3d acceleration is that too many people aren't doing creative things with it. We should be pushing the technology, as it used to be in the old days.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy many of the visually stunning, high-quality 3d accelerated productions that have come out over the past few years, but I am saying that perhaps today's coders are getting lazy.
We need more creative coding, as well as the creativity involved in music, graphics, and overall design.

And to address the original question:
If you're just starting out as a coder, my advice is to get accustomed to setting up a rendering context, putting pixels, etc, and then just try and implement some of the things you see in older demos using your brain.
You'll learn a whole lot more if you try and recreate something you see with little or no assistance from others (unless you get really stuck). A few ideas:
- Plasma (sine and cosine waves)
- Basic 3D (brush up on your matrix math and vector algebra)
- Voxel Landscapes
etc, etc. Good luck. :)

bout this - learn them basicz. do something in goodole 13h, start with plotting a pixel (y*320+x, weisst schon. ;) aaaaaahh. (mehr bier) then do some rotozoomer: "(x+y*bla/256) xor (y-x*bla/256)"
..and be happy.
