Hornet gone from CDROM.COM?
category: general [glöplog]
Atleast it seems so at the time. Does anyone know when (or if) scene.org will be putting its Hornet-mirror back up?
Hmm.. well, it's disappeared before but returned, so it may not be gone for good. There are still a ton of Hornet mirrors, links to them are at www.hornet.org.
Yeah, but now it seems that www.hornet.org is gone too (all it shows is an Apache test-page.
The web page is on a different machine than the ftp site, so they're not really related anymore. I'll ask Christopher what's up.
WHAT HAPPENT TO HORNET??!??!?!
yes..! Is hornet up again?
As I understood it FTP.CDROM.COM scrapped all their non-revenue generating archives ages ago after Walnut Creek sold the domain and server to Digital River. This was years ago, as documented in the April 2000 ACiD newsletter http://www.acid.org/info/news/news-89.html#ARTPACKS (much has changed since then).
Both the Hornet Archive and ACiD Artpacks Archive would, for some strange reason, once in a while appear for a few weeks and then disappear again without explanation from FTP.CDROM.COM. Other than the explanation that they were ditching archives en masse that were unprofitable.
ftp://ftp.scene.org/mirrors/hornet/, on the other hand, which is completely unrelated to CDROM.COM seems to be working just fine for me.
