and then you wonder why ppl go away from the scene

category: general [glöplog]
shifter: i can even let you pick:

) that other sceners dont give a fuck about ppl they dont know personaly

) that other sceners dont give a fuck about efforts to bring new elements to the scene (just whine and critic and diss)

) that other sceners rather suck their homies dicks off than give a stranger a pat in the back (their national scene is all that really matters because its the only thing they have to immediatly deal with)

) that other sceners dont even really want to meet other sceners from outskirts of their definition of scene and get to know their view of the scene

but you beeing the clueless smart ass will rather once again pick the
) that ps is a whinning sore looser craving for more attention.

skrebble: unfortunatly you're right, indiference is pretty common comunity phenomena, howhever i was lead to believe that the demoscene, being constituted by somewhat more visionary broader minds than the average joe, could challenge the grounds of the standard dick measuring and friend hyping phenomena. i was obviously beeing utopian. netlabel scene has it to some degree, some labels focus on the hyping and dick grabbing, others focus on sharing their sound with the world and meeting other interesting artists. im happy to say enoughrecords belongs to the latter, im sad to say that its popularity has been completly swallowed by most of they hype seeking ones.

in fact, i really start wondering, whats the point of sharing "art" if a majority of the target audience will rather not experience it? but rather prefer just beeing "entertained". unfortunatly for me creating it comes as a need not a choice, but i fail to comprehend how sharing it has developed into a need aswell.. vague attempt to keep the "people will check it if they really care" idea alive. should prolly just start selling it, people always take it more seriously when there are price tags in it. another common community phenomena that i will probably always try and never suceed in breaking: capitalist consume hype.

quisten: And some people don't like it when they're exposed to other people's assholes.

I wish hello.jpg would turn up...

ps: ... wow. just wow. You seriously consider any of these rants of yours to be a point you could derive from what I posted?

I find your conclusions worrisome and incorrect.

shifter: you dont surprise me. you always did have a hard time understanding anything slightly complex that i try to explain to you. lets blame it on my lack of social and communicative skills and leave at that shall we? im not really in the mood to explain everything yet again.

Actually no, that bullshit line won't do. Elaborate.

slightly complex as in, requiring to read between and beyond the words.. not meant that you're too dumb to read what i write or anything.. o_O

Hey, guys! This thread was interesting the first two pages. Now it makes me prefer debugging my code.

How about "agree to differ"?
added on the 2005-06-22 18:31:30 by ManJIT ManJIT
your brain functions on alpha waves, mine on beta. they dont quite click together easily. and i often fail to properly translate my thoughts into a language which you can easily ,and more importantly, accuratly comprehend.
not that i think im smarter than you, we just have problems seeing eye to eye on issues. and i'd rather not get insulted by you and your missunderstandings of whatever im saying, yet again.

manjit: yeh, thats what im trying.

"agree to differ" on having different opinions on art/demos too then ;)

also, i gotta admit that ps has a certain point. you should judge stuff from a certain perspective.. but you cant know its background everytime, right?

manjit: I'd love to, but there's a bit of a misalignment in what he sees as points. He also really gets touchy with the namecalling that simply cannot be waived with this "I'm so intelligent, I shit poems!" nonense.

He goes into checklist rant mode, and refuses to elaborate where in the bloody hell he gets that kind of an idea from. I'm not trying to argue who is TEH SMARTYPANTS, but I certainly would like to know where he got his ideas from, since that was certainly none of the points I wanted to come across with, nor wanted part of.

If the best he can offer is "I am too smart so go away", he'd better rename to kozmik and have the transformation over with.

maali: the taste in art/demos isnt even in question on this thread afaic. its the attitude towards all prods and new things in the scene, not just the "art" ones.

Hmwell, I, find 'art' that doesn't entertain me in one way or another pretty useless. Then again in my world "making me think" is also a form of entertainment (i.e. not only jokes or action, but I guess most people agree there).

if your aim is to please the majority, then it's pointless indeed...

Shimmying the topic over to one side for a moment...

I remember being midly perplexed by ps' reaction at BP05 when telling him that I watched the entire 20-ish minutes of his "out-of-compo" production from start to end. He seemed surprised, saying something like: "Really? The whole thing?"

It seemed strange that he didn't expect that. I mean, I travelled to Breakpoint to meet sceners and watch demos. This was the first demo being shown on the big screen, and damned if I was going to miss it.

Sure, I pretty much knew what to expect from his demo before it even began, and it's true that sort of material doesn't do anything for me. But I really believe it's important to expose oneself to stuff that is outside of one's usual preferences. Afterall, inspiration can be found anywhere, even in things you don't enjoy.

But when the compos began, I understood his reaction. The booing and jeering of "unpopular styles" really caught me off guard. I was ready to experience anything and everything, but apparently the same can't be said for many other people in attendance. (However, I think they were a minority, albeit a loud minority. Quite possibly intoxicated too.)

I now return you to the thread already in progress...

'Afterall, inspiration can be found anywhere, even in things you don't enjoy.'

Which is the exact reason why that scary thing called 'art' isn't about pleasing your visual prefs but taking you out of your fucking comfort zone, once in a while.

A bunch of vomiting nerds isn't as shameful as that booing at BP was!
