Recent tops on pouet

category: general [glöplog]

How about introducing an additional top ten on pouet that only includes more recent releases?

This could be based on something like this:

-Top ratings/views for demos released/added within the last x days
-Most new comments/good ratings during the last x days
-Any combination of these

This would be very helpful to locate good recent releases, especially from less known parties. The current top list on the front page seems to be carved in stone, it is not very helpful for frequent visitors.

i think this is a good idea (though probably a pain to code)

like the idea, and i dont think that this should be hard to code, looks light straightforward sql to me ;) but i trust ps will be able to handle it

great idea

Why not but...

1. I'm against the fact of removing the current top of the pops because it would simply make old masterpieces such as Heaven Seven, FR-19 or Popular Demo disappear from the top just because they are 3 or 5 years old.
Some of you don't like them but ON AVERAGE and in the long term, they are the most popular prods here nevertheless (according to their % of popularity and their number of thumbs up), and that's what this top is all about.

2. HOWEVER, why not adding another table, "recent pops" or something, that would deal with recent additions/releases only, thus giving hints on recent prods this time.

stelthz is so fucking genious, this suggestion has been made since like 3-4 years ago?

I want that too, and I want the other idea where you can click on a nick and see what everyone has produced in his scenelife..

yeah, would be a nice touch

Optimus: that's not a bad idea but I wonder how this could be handled.
Maybe through another category in the userinfo but I'm afraid the usual pouet trolls associate themselves to prods they have nothing to do with. I guess it's the last thing authors of these prods would want... hence the strong need to prevent this.

yeah..however, it would only mean another glöperator or so to maintain/control things..such info is usually in nfo files too, so I guess the initial work (backtracking added prods) would be enormous but then become rather trivial.
keops: csdb manage it quite well, so i guess it'd work. the question is: who will bother? ;)

I like both ideas---additional recent tops and associating nick with the prods they've been part of.

I often find myself trying to find out what recent (<1 year back), good productions I've missed. Also, I often try to see who's added a prod and see if he/she seems to be part of it. If the one adding a prod does not give it a thumb up or down he/she is often one of the makers, but you never know without reading the nfo.

I agree although PS never really bothers to do a cool management interface for managing data so that might be a problem (I can't blame him though)

Generating some kind of static "top of the last month" list at the end of each month shouldn't be too hard, and seeing the charts for previous months would be nice when you've been away for a while.

Not so sure on the "what sceners were involved in" part.. it's hard to see a way of getting it started without either loads of work or having a seriously incomplete/flawed database. But maybe it would work and i'm just cynical :)

let's just hope ps wont commit suicide after reading this topic

pouet is already a suicide for him

Regarding the "what sceners were involved in":
How about having a connection between Pouët users and groups? This could at least give a hint about which prods the user might have been part of.

Some users have custom avatars that show which group they're member of. Such phenomena is proof enough that people would want a link between user and group.

Flaws could be taken care of since true group members would notice if someone is faking membership.

(If there already is such a feature I've missed it. Sorry!)

"I want the other idea where you can click on a nick and see what everyone has produced in his scenelife.."

Me too!
Manjit: yeah, and then we just need a threadh "kick be beatiful", where people can complain about fakemembers and have them kicked.

Btw. this kind of information is already available in the ojuice database.

Back to the original subject....

How about a list like:

select * from prods
where added>sysdate-30
order by (30-(sysdate-added))*popularity desc

That would be 150 euros, I will send you the bill. Thank you. ;)

rainmaker: that would make interesting charts :)

Maybe the weighting should be a little bit less linear?
