(Re-)Editing pouet-prods .... pleeeease!!!

category: general [glöplog]

Hiho...
Well, I know this topic was on here already a few ago.
But I just wanted to re-enter it AGAIN as last time it seems not to have found a serious 'result' although necessary I think.

So here it is again:
It would be *VERY* useful for pouet.net if added prods could be (re-)edited after they are online in the database.
Of course _not_ from anybody...but at least from the one who actually _posted_ the prod or maybe some additional people that person can enter as kinda 'prod-ops' when entering a new prod...

Reason for that feature would be that quite often any given download-links, screenshots, info-files or web-links aren't working or got mis-typed or need to be changed again for any reason etc...

At the moment it's NOT possible and people need to post a comment on a prod to enter the correct download-links for example etc. That's pretty confusing when looking at some prods with 100000 of post already for example! ;-)

Well, I'm surely telling nothing really new to everyone here I think...but I'd like to read some feedback from e.g. analogue why such a feature is still missing after all when pouet.net is online since sooooo damn long time already! ;-)

More sceners' feedback wanted as well here... ;-)

Bye,

i think you should atleast be able to join a "group" and modify their releases, its so obvious it shouldve been there from the beginning

uhm
we use alpha to so
0xffff00ff or just rgb (undefined alpha is always ff;) 0xff00ff

thats the power of love!
added on the 2002-08-10 04:32:36 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
i must add that ALPHA DOES NOT HAVE TO BE 255 AND THEREFORE 0x00ff00ff IS JUST AS VALID

having a modification feature encourages people to be even sloppier than they already are
added on the 2002-08-10 10:01:31 by _-_-__ _-_-__
uhh?
so when a server dies, who holds a release it shall no longer be easy to download

if a patch for the release is released for being NICE to people they shall not be able to change the download url..

if someone adds something WRONGLY the AUTHORS shall not be able to fix that?

you mr knos are a damn moron

Stefan, i can see it now how you would abuse such modification feature. Better have the physical, permanent proof you're such a lo.tek kr!ket, in the form of your "productions".

Besides there's an history of creators having egotist delusions leading them to remove or otherwise mutilate their creations..

Any modification feature shall anyway pass through a moderation system.. analogue could well add a button
along each page to send "modification requests" (and have a team of admins to apply them)

added on the 2002-08-10 13:53:17 by _-_-__ _-_-__
why abuse stuff like that, it would kindof ruin this site completely, but i guess mr KNOS the MORON doesnt understand that.

knos, nowadays you cant add stuff with direct links since somedays it will most likely change url , so then people use dummy addings wich is painful when downloading shit.

updating is a must.
also why is that you can only specify 2 groups coop, there are lot of 3 groups coop an even more..

Well, that's why I've written in my initial post that to avoid abuse of that feature _not_ anyone should be able to edit an online prod...but only the one who actually _added_ it !
That way it wouldn't come to re-re-re-re-edits from various people just because they think that it should be better to have it this or that way...

Maybe it's as well a good idea to let the actual 'group' specified for a prod edit the prod as well...in case someone has added a release from any group he doesn't belong himself anyways and that group might find any 'posting-errors'...

Still would like to read some feedback from analogue as well here! ;-DD He's the master....

Bye,
Weasel

...and...aeh..it would be nice if some of you could leave out the child talk here... Hmm....it's not that useful I think! Thanks...
(but maybe this already shows why there isn't such a feature till now yet!? ;-)) Hmm...)
added on the 2002-08-10 17:31:35 by Weasel Weasel

the one who actually added it might not give a shit for updating it.. and often even dont care to specify year, party or enter wrong info..

there should be moderators, regular posters who knows a lot 'bout the thing.

i think the people who made the stuff should decide not the lamers in top10 glöplist

On topic:

- add a "modify" link to the prod page
- clicking on that link leads to an "modify request form"
- submitting this form will forward the request to the moderator

Besides modifing the prod data (adding/correcting party ranks etc.), the moderators should be allowed to add logos and probably other little stuff.

This way, the mod people can help to tidy up the database mess a bit etc. and analouge is still the one with the main power (killing prods/threads/comments etc.)

And I'd like to have an ignore feature for the trolls...
added on the 2002-08-10 19:25:37 by tomaes tomaes
additionally, there should be one or two trusted php dudes, who help analouge with fixing bugs & adding features...

I definitely like to edit my own products and those of my groups, because there are errors in almost every one of them.
well, guys...
Simply read my posts a bit closer...! ;-) It might help...

Nothing against 'moderators' in general...but you also know that people might have already lotsa work and imagine if certain people called 'moderators' will receive mails over mails and request forms over request form from people on pouet.net when finding anything worn with any prod....

So this shouldn't be the only way to be able to correct this. Of course..let's have moderators as well...but let also sp0lit it up for a little more 'wrok-splitting'...like (I already wrote it before...):
1.) let the one who posted a new prod be able to re-edit it as well when something went wrong...
2.) let the makers of the prod (every prod has a group behind it of course who is also registered here at pouet in the database!!) be able to edit their own prod as well...athough they haven't entered it in the database here themselves but someone of the 'top10 gloeppers'...
3.) let the _moderators_ also have the chance to edit any prods in case neither the poster nor the group-members of the prod are able to edit the added prod correctly...(which should hopefully be very rarely then!!)...or if some pouet-visitors finds anything wrong with any (old) prod and needs to send such a 'request'-form to the moderators then...

Wouldn't that be an allround-solution for the whole database with which everyone here could be satisfied? ;-)

Just would think so...

Bye,
Weasel

Each direct, human modification to a database has to go
through a layer of indirection, even if it's for a simple
approval|denial.

(If done correctly, it shouldn't take time at all, just select the requested modification and press validate)
