recompiled Unreal / Second Reality / Crystal Dream II / Stars

category: code [glöplog]
I keep thinking that people will start lacking trust for everything they see online and will look for live actions of their favourites thing, live coding, live music, actual people doing the actual painting in front of them. Maybe eventually we'll all stop caring if the tools are made with an LLM but at least we'll see people using them live so we'll be able to appreciate more of the humanity.

And maybe we all end up too piss poor to even be able to prompt LLMs so the problem is solved and we keep doing what we like to do the way we like to do it.
"the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth"

@hitchhikr:
Yes, this seems to be the purpose for the big money pumped into AI. It's not the only purpose of humans working on AI.
so… useful idiots then?
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the legendary demo “1995” by Kewlers & mfx. Dear vibe-coders, could you please port it to the browser so I can watch it on my Mac? :)

There are AI shills and there are AI stooges. Most AI lovers around here belong to the latter.

Fuck you for even suggesting this.

bitl is part of the cynical death cult too
Yeah again, just make better virtual machines to run the demos of old, and leave the latter as is.

tbh I assume it's some weak ass trolling by bitl, not a serious request.

Why I said he is part of the death cult.
At this point, any idiots thinking they win by trolling are suicidal idiots.
Could we please calm down a bit?! I know, this is a controversial topic. Take a break and code a bit.
Right… again, folks, the scene is not only about coders, if it were all prods would have shitty colours.
Indeed. Ofc, pixel, compose, do whatever creative comes to your mind. :)

Imagine being so out of touch and clueless, that you have to beg (troll?) in a forum to find yourself a sloperator, to waste a billion tokens on your behalf, while trying to achieve something that is already perfectly possible. And has been for quite some time.

Choose graphics, design, zero LLMs and shaders.

(Granted, some parts run with glacial speed, because Rosetta 2 decidedly hates x87 FPU code. But it works. Because WINE rocks.)

Forgive me for my sins. I have a rather old Mac (2017), and although the demo "1995" runs under Wine, it's very slow and renders incorrectly. Even so, the GPU (Radeon Pro 560 4 ГБ) should still be powerful enough to handle a demo from 2006.

That won't work. Claude isn't available in Russia (and accounts get banned for using a VPN).

It runs smooth on my 2019 MacBook Pro (RX5500M). In fact it runs a lot better than on the M2, because it doesn't have to go through Rosetta... So...

If you still think it's WINE's fault, how about getting that fixed instead? Even if I put my prejudice against LLM code and sloperators away for a moment, people seem to forgot what makes a computer tick, because magical digital wishing well grants wishes now.

(And on what maali said - I've seen someone port an Amiga/060 intro to Windows via LLM, because "I do not know how to configure the emulator." Apparently, asking how to configure the emulator did not cross his mind. We aren't going to make it. As a species, I mean.)
