A while ago I made this for fun:

It’s basically the missing notification system for pouet :)
I am not sure whether it's going to affect the demoscene but who knows maybe you'll find it useful.

What does it do?

well it sends notifications by email:

when a reply is posted in a thread you're watching
when there’s a new line on the oneliner (disabled by default for your own sanity)
when someone mentions you on the oneliner (for example if someone writes hello @shantee, I get an email)

To use it, just go to https://pouet.zfx.fr and enter something (for example you handle).
It will create your own dashboard where you can manage your settings.

This is obviously not private at all !!!
So if you use your actual scene handle, anyone can also use it to access your dashboard, change your settings, and see/modify your email address.

For example, if you enter shantee, you'll see mine. I personally don’t care that much, but some of you might.

But yeah obviously you do not have to use your handle you can use whatever you want, as long as you remember it.

people here are too old for that shit, when they're not busy trolling, pissing themselves while drinking questionable beers, they'll press F5 massively just to see if someone replied to them

However, for the young people who still are OK being part of the circus I guess it could be useful.

to spell it out in full, it's excellent for stalking whenever a certain topic is mentioned (a keyword doesn't have to be a username...) and insert themselves into the conversation to post whatever garbage they desire. congrats, you just gave trolls more ammo!

the notification that a certain thread is updated is made regardless of a post content if I'm correct?

this thing that I made is definitely NOT built with "safety / privacy / security" in mind! lol... Oh boy! Not at all. Au contraire ! (On the contrary !)

It’s built for lazy people like me who don’t want to go through some complex ID verification, KYC process, biometric retina scan, blood sample, three-factor stuff just to use some dumb website on the interwebs.

So yeah you get the idea: don’t use your real handle if you don’t want to. Use "mysecretpouetthing" or whatever you’ll remember tomorrow.

Well, the reason we are "so pessimistic" is because being queer on the internet teaches you very quickly that there are, in fact, people that do want to hurt you solely because of that fact. "Nobody wants to hurt anyone here" my ass.

(And even without the queerness factor, just imagine a few spectrum scene subdivision guys watching every mention of the spectrum platform name to insert themselves into the convo. Not exactly fun either.)

Yes , fair point ! I am sorry if you had to deal with stupid assholes online or IRL just for being yourself; that sucks and that is sad indeed ! and yep I was joking around I know the world is not always sunshines and rainbows I am just over optmisitic sometime:)


That said, I think there may be a misunderstanding about what the system does and does not. So, just to clarify :

It just watches “has this thread received a newer last post since the last check?” and emails you if yes
it’s basically : if page_fingerprint_different_since_last_check then send_email()


And yep.. that's pretty much all it does!

It does NOT log into Pouet and does not touch Pouet accounts,
It does NOT post anything,
It does NOT SCAN thread contents for keywords,
it CANNOT follow any specific "user" activity,
it doesn't impersonate anyone and it CANNOT make anyone "do or say" anything.

And finally if you want it to do anything YOU have to manually add the threads / prods you want to watch. So it is not a "follow this user around pouet" thing.


Now yes there is this oneliner @keyword thing that was more of a silly experiment than a serious feature ( who has real convo on the oneliner anyway? ;) ahah :wink: wink: )
But I get your worries and if this feels too abusable then I can remove it.
but again just to clear any misunderstanding :

It CANNOT be used to send messages to any specific user who doesn't use the system or disabled the feature ! It cannot be used to impersonate anybody
It only sends emails to people who explicitly configured the watcher themselves.
And obviously using it is absolutely NOT mandatory!!

Do you mean someone could mess with another person’s Pouet Watcher dashboard/settings because the dashboard "key" easily guessable ?
If yes, that part I understand, and that’s exactly why I warned people not to use their real handle if they care about privacy !
Just use a UUID !! That's less sexy than just "shantee" but yep probably a bit harder to guess :)

Also this could be easily fixed (i just wanted something simple)

this is nonsense, in fact it's super easy to do just that, all one has to know is the person's email address
