Importance of Greetings nowadays

category: general [glöplog]
i don't want to be in the same list as magic!
The greetings start arguing among themselves...

For me, this falls into the category: how would my ideal audience answer this question?

And answering personally, my ideal audience would find greetings irrelevant or alienating.

At least, people are happy or groups, to receive greetings. So its still nice
It's as important as anything else related to the demoscene, i.e. not important at all. It's just a hobby we do for fun.

I don't think the demoscene is "just a hobby".
Cooking is just a hobby to me... I love to cook and I can spend a lot of time trying to make elaborate and delicious things but now will I spend a whole week end at "cooking parties" sharing beers with other cooks while watching cooking videos...Hmm i don't think so

I mean yeah I guess it can be "just a hobby" for some but for many it is so much more than that. There's a culture, deep connections and I don't know maybe other stuff i can't express behind this "simple hobby".

Judging how certain people can get so defensive over their "hobby" and "winning" and what is the point of entering compos, I am not sure.

Some seem to think winning is the defining trait, which judging from their output and winning compo entries, maybe to them they definitely see it that way. They see winning as the only reason to do demos.

“Just a hobby” or something more, to some people it provides identity.

I'm still getting a warm and fuzzy feeling when being greeted. Which is, and has always been my main motivation for greeting others. And I think it's the kind of importance that never wears off.
