Looking for good DOS demos

category: general [glöplog]
For starters, you can go over to scene.org, look up demoparty results and watch the winners or the first 5 from each. Or even all of them, if you like.

Can you recommend something better?

Yes, no filter at all (and configuring the emulator properly so Crystal Dream 2 doesn't bug out)

Ugh… It feels like Crystal Dream 2 was captured with a very low cycles setting. Or maybe cycles=auto was used. That’s really not how it should be done.

The aspect ratio is also incorrect. The 320×200 mode on a real 4:3 monitor does not have square pixels, but here the image is presented as 16:10. It might not be very noticeable… but in CD2, for example, the planet isn’t supposed to be oval in the original.

On top of that, the pixels are blurred.

No filter view mode is on button 1, also added new CRT filter with a bit of noise at button 5...

Thanks a lot for feedback, demo Crystal Dream 2 recaptured by Gautier, now works pefectly.
Aspect ratio also fixed..
I added option for sorting by name/date/thumbs_up.
New view mode 5 for unblurred pixels.

It bothers me that the page says "As they should be viewed" while using real machines is obviously the preferable method of watching.
The filters look like they were made by someone who only heard about CRTs, but never saw one in person. It would be better to just remove them.

Yes, it seems to be assumed we watched DOS demos on an old TV set :)

Good, but unusual demo/intro:

Magic Biniou by Eclipse - Excellent, but unusual for a demo music

poison by Satori - Satori's first release? I loved it right away :)

Dis by Mandula - Real jazz in the demo? And the code is excellent, too! The only thing better is probably their own demo, Live Evil, but that's for Windows.
