Easy. The Meteoriks aren't the official awards of the demoscene, they are just _one_ awards ceremony. Just because at this point in time nobody else is doing awards, this doesn't mean it's not decentralized.

(and by "nobody else is doing awards" I mean big, annually awards ceremonies. There's a lot of smaller awards out there, for example Evoke's newcomer award)

i for one welcome this very official announcement of the upcoming darklite awards!

and already look forward to covering it and witnessing a whole range of brand new and mindblowing controversies to replace the recurring debate of what actually is midschool and how no demos both should and should not be nominated there.

to kick things off i suggest britelite should never be nominated for a darklite award, just because you can't be bright in the dark, everyone knows that. discuss!

makes me think that if there is one award that the scene is missing, it is some sort of award that celebrates the archivers.

Likewise how I view Pouet as not being the nexus of what the Scene is, unlike what others seem to proudly think >_>.

Just to be absolutely sure, as the guy coding the backend I can assure you his brighness is nothing a simple NOT AL or sinking his coordinates into a heavy layer of volumetric depth fog can't fix.

There is a difference between a committee of artists handing out their prizes and a committee purporting to represent said community as a whole. I don't see a problem with Meteoriks Awards, the same way there was nothing wrong with scene.org awards or any other demoscene award ever.
