scene.market — trade your retro stuff at demoparties

category: general [glöplog]

hey friends! 👋

we just launched scene.market: a community marketplace for trading physical items face to face at demoparties.

what is it?
a simple platform where you can post offers and searches for retro hardware, disks, magazines, merch, and other scene-related stuff. no shipping, no payment processing - just arrange a handoff at the next party.

how it works:

  • login with your SceneID
  • post an offer ("i'm bringing my spare Amiga 500 to Revision") or a search ("looking for a C64 PSU, will be at Evoke")
  • pick which demoparties you'll attend
  • someone interested? they claim your item, you get their contact details, sort out the rest yourselves

pricing options: free, buy me a drink 🍺, fixed price, trade, or surprise me

upcoming parties synced from demozoo: Revision, Evoke, Assembly, Deadline, Edison, and 30+ more already listed.

the whole thing runs on Go + HTMX + SQLite, and is operated by Computerkunst e.V. - source will be made open soon.

we'd love your feedback. try it out and let us know what you think!

greetings to everyone who still has a box of old hardware in the attic. time to find it a new home. 🖥️

great initiative ^^ I have been asking around for some specific things I'm wanting to get my paws on, so this is great!

I'll have stuff to list soon enough too, I think :)

This is an awesome initiative! Hopefully this will keep prices affordable within demoscene circles.

I'll list a few things later this week as well.
Awesome job! <3

Nice initiative! I organised a small retro/electronics flea market at Edison a couple of times, it was pretty successful in shifting hardware. Keeping it within the scene should mean keeping the scalpers out as well.

nice!

Detail: Is there a view that shows what you claimed? Maybe that could be added to the profile page as a "My claims" list?

Nice! I gave away some t-shirts at last years Revision, so was thinking of suggesting some kind of fleamarket thing this year. But this is better :)

Ahhh there's a "View my claims" link you can click. Nice!

I wonder if we'll ever get trades that happen at an American Demoparty (or demoparty outside of Europe in general) because of this? But yeah I love the idea I hope I get to use it >:).
Really cool idea ! I just added a listing to try ..might add more later

excellent idea! a good opportunity to clean out some closets.

usability feedback: i think the demoparties in the filtering dropdown should be sorted by alphabet and not by whatever they are sorted now - it's a bit confusing to find a particular one.

They're sorted by date, one can always just start typing with the dropdown open to find something in it (if you're on a PC that is), maybe using an explicitly searchable dropdown with text input at the top would be more user friendly.

Cool project, looking forward to use it in the future! Kudos to those behind it.

Thanks for the nice feedback, and thanks to everyone who already posted or claimed some listings and gave feedback.

Some improvements were shipped the last days, based on the received feedback (keep it coming!):

  • (fix) portrait images are now displayed correctly
  • (new) one can now see which listing exactly got a claim
  • (new) add listing quantity for multi-item stock support - existing listings default to amount:1 - feel free to edit, if it's more than one.
  • (new) parties/events can now also added manually (for those not at demozoo, eg. BDSM meetups - let me know if I should add your meetup/event that is not on demozoo)

happy trading!
