An effect similar to this was very popular in the early 1990's. It was called "static plasma".

Mmm,. I read the texts now and this is:

1) a plasma
2) keftales
3) interference
4) a fractal
5) Who knows what more..

It's funny whenever I read a lot of diferrent names for the same effect :)

However,. it's interesting. I didn't knew of the effect keftales a some time ago. I happened to read the definition of demoeffect in a dictionary where it was mentioned and I wondered htf I didn't knew about this before? I must have coded some Keftales accidentally too once in qbasic but never used it :)

I've coded all of these and more. I even made it yellow a couple of times. Never came up with my own name for it though.
