Yes, I was burned by the Scene years ago for things 100% unrelated to AI. Maybe I should "make a demo about it".
The Demoscene unfortunately has a history of cheating in and out of competitions.
AI is just another way.
There are some human thoughts here that suggest how to stay an artist/demoscener/person, while AI legislation gets established. When it is, organizers can choose to follow that.
Or make any rules they want and enforce them, since they are paying for the prizes and hosting the entertainment show. This has been available before AI and is available until the end of humanity.
