VOTE: Best game music ever?
category: general [glöplog]
Another vote for Dune on AdLib Gold from me.
I would like to suggest either Chrono Trigger or the arcade game Blade Master from Irem.

Ori and the blind forest / Ori and the will of the wisps
Recent ones I remember.
From Indies. Celeste had some sweet music. Also a metroidvania The Mummy Demastered had some bangers and wonderful background art too.
From old, not gonna name any souls (I like mostly silence or ambience on them and not as much the epic orchestral everyone adores), but King's Field 4 melancholic soundtrack.

Paul Clansey's music for "Time Trax" (sometimes mistakenly credited to Yip/Pure-Byte who used it in "Omega Man") on Commodore 64 seems like an iconic example of computer game music. It captures the spirit of computers better than almost anything else. David Whittaker's Amiga version of "Archipelagos" ingame music comes close with its dazing mysticism.
"Best", I dunno, but some particular for me :
About "classics SID" tunes (never had a c64) Jeroen Tel's "Tintin on the Moon" music is so groovy for his time. And classical of all the time, Galway's "Comic Bakery" is THE HIT hahaha...
Hülsbeck's AY conversion of "Bad cat" on ST is really fat like an italo hit (the c64 version with samples sounds less flat).
Gilles Soulet's "Sapiens" theme on CPC have this little "something special" that makes this tune really nice.
All Konami's games OST on MSX with the SCC chip (Nemesis 2&3, Parodious, F1-Spirit, Salamander, King's Valley 2, Contra...) really have something (maybe the japanese touch + the special sound of the SCC with the PSG). They also have many "simple" PSG tunes really good (like Penguin Adventure for exemple).
K. Ohsawa's "Famicle Parodic" OST on MSX is only PSG, but it has a "crazy/strange" mood and is really singular.
Ray Norrish's "The Killing Game Show" tune ingame on Amiga is a perfect mix with guitar samples/rock mood and "amigan" style... I also really love Walkman's tune on "Twintris" menu, so sweet and peacefull...
And probably many many more hahaha...

mandragora! the game is extremely meh but the soundtrack extremely good
Commando
Yeah Dune on Adlib is really great. Chrono Trigger of course too, but Mark Morgan on Planescape: Torment (and of course on soundscape on Fallout 1 and 2)
And i guess everyone's just too edgy to say Nobuo Uematsu but i will: FF VI Terra's theme and FF X To Zanarkand for example. And from Uematsu the whole FF Prelude song in every game, it is fantastic.
But there are two songs from the same game that i had most feelings with any game ever, they are both from Red Dead Redemption 2, other from very end of the main game while cinematic riding a horse, and other from the very end of main game. Don't wanna spoil with vids if people still want to play.
why are y'all so obsessed with the old stuff?
the OST for Factorio (pre space age) is amazing.
so is the OST for WOW vanilla.
or Low Roars stuff for Death Stranding.
all three slaps those old SIDs any day.
