6th Annual Demoscene Card Exchange

Would they be able to tell if there's a sticker inside a thick folded card in the envelope?

If any of the people I'm assigned are in the US I guess I'll send them an additional separate single card with no envelope as well, so they at least get something, in case my planned card+envelope+sticker combo is rejected.

You can be proactive and add the customs declaration. Your local post office will probably be able to help.

The transport of (...) letters containing goods, as well as gift shipments, is still temporarily suspended.

This ^ is why I'm wondering if they can even tell if there's a sticker inside the card or not.

The way it is worded seems to suggest that adding a customs declaration would pretty much guarantee that the letter will in fact be stopped, if letters containing gifts are still suspended.

Assignments posted! But emails will go out automatically later, if everything works as planned.

If you see any issues relating to assignments, and not the site itself, please message me privately. 🙂 (There's contact info on the privacy page or Discord works.)
Still waiting for the cards from the print house, will probably be posting them this week..

Cards are ready, other stuff needs some more work.
Got mine all out the door today. 🙂 Quite early, but they should beat the mail rush, and beats accidentally putting them off until it's too late.
Got the first one, that was fast! Cool card from Soundy, thanks a lot!
Finally got the cards posted. The print house took their time. A

Ouch. Not even sending internationally from the US costs that much, unless yours were over an ounce? We're like $1.70 (£1.29) for an international ounce.
It was over 3€ per card for me too.

Ah 🙂

I ended up giving mine a bit of extra postage, just in case USPS decided they were "non-machinable" which has a surcharge. The cards this year are a bit more inflexible than usual in the short direction. Didn't want them returned to me.

(Plus I also need to use up the custom print wireframe cube stamps I got, as they're not forever stamps, so they get even less useful as years go by.)

boringly here in the UK, post going via airmail etc just gets a printed label, rather than stamps.
all mine are A3 envelopes folded in half, so a few mm bigger than a UK 'letter' so they fall into the next price bracket up, but better than stiff falling out on the way to my sendees :)

Not 100% unrelated knowing some of you overachievers: Finnish post has announced that they won't be accepting postal packages to the US this holiday season due to the ongoing chaos with de minimis etc. Cards and letters should be fine.

What a surprise! Even though I'm not participating this year, I received a wonderful card from Daddy Freddy. Thank you so much!

Given the variety of stamps out there, fraud is way too easy - someone experimented some years back by cutting a stamp-sized square off some junk mail and used that as postage stamp. The mail arrived without issues. I'm pretty sure you're down to boring printed labels just to get around this.

Just received my first card. From Finland, no less!
Thanks, sol!

I actually forgot to mention, but I'm participating for the first time ever and decided to go with 10 cards.
Had a wildly creative idea about what to make and to be completely honest, I think it escalated a bit too much. Still waiting for the final piece of gear and materials to arrive.
It feels as if I'm spinning up a small factory here. And the results will hopefully show that. Expect something professional, bhaha!

I also received a super cool card from Sol, so I'm off the mark as a recipient! Will be sending mine soon.

I can get those too, if I want to go into the post office. But, I have a stockpile of unsent stamps in a drawer I'm extremely slowly working through... plus the USPS has international poinsettia stamps I like to use for this exchange. (Though I ran out this year. So some people got African daisies. They should really bring back the moon ones.)
I just got my first card delivered, thank you so much, Starchaser! 🔥

back in january here in the uk, all stamps changed, every one now has a QR code as part of it - anything that doesn't have one gets dumped out of the mail sorting machines for a person to check, so putting old stamps, or fake stamps wont work here any more.
