category: general [glöplog]
I almost forgot about this...
So join us all again sending and receiving end of year "cards" with other people. Sign up, get creative, wait for your recipients, then post the results!
The deadline to join is November 8th.

For first timers, I definitely recommend reading the rules. I think being creative is neat, but do what you're comfortable with. 🙂
If you decide to post photos of what you receive, don't forget to cover any personal information like addresses before posting.

Sure, why not.

Just a little reminder, as previously there have been participants from Russia too: don't know about the other EU countries, but postal service from Finland to Russia is still suspended, so there is no easy way to send cards there.
Signed up!
I 'm in !

Yeah I'm not sure which all countries don't mail to Russia, but iirc cards can be marked with a "via $Country" to forward through one that does. Never tried it though.
I signed up this year, too! Hope this is good...
One week left to sign up for the card exchange!
Signed up!
Another reminder: if you're sending to the US, send plain post cards, or otherwise there's a high probability they will not go through (at least according to my local post office)
sol: what is not plain? postcard in an enveloppe?

Yeah, that's how I understood it. If it's an envelope, it needs customs declaration and all that yahoo.

As someone who lives in the US, I don't think anything in regards to a "standard" letter (not overly large or thick, only 1-3 oz) has changed. Should just be mailable as usual with the correct stamp(s).
However, I will admit to being as confused as everyone else about all our awful tariff mucking about, and I can't exactly test this stuff from the inside.
While I can't find any pages on the USPS site with summaries about sending to the US, I found an updated document on their site relating to mail, dated November 3rd, 2025. Page 218 onward is probably the relevant parts.
In the past, anything not larger than 6 x 11 in. (16 x 28 cm), 1/2 in. (6 mm) thick, and 3.5 oz (99 g) was considered a "letter."
There's likely not going to be many people participating from the US, given past years' participation numbers. I don't reveal exact demographics for a reason on the stats page, but I am OK revealing that as it stands I am the only participant from the US.
If people would like me to look further, I can try asking a local post office, but it's likely I'll just get told to check their website.
Latest update (September) from the finnish postal service:
"This means that consumers and businesses can send letters or cards paid with stamps or other form of postage to the United States. Sending goods in letters is prohibited.
It is now also possible to send registered letters and letters of advice with delivery, if they only contain documents with no monetary value.
The transport of parcels and letters containing goods, as well as gift shipments, is still temporarily suspended."
So is a card inside an envelope still just a card (or a letter), or does it count as "a letter containing goods"? Dunno, I'll send my stuff anyway.

I tried to send a letter a year ago and added a business card, and it bounced twice before I did a customs declaration.
Just saying.
Just saying.
Well, again, I don't really know why that would've happened but I do know the USPS can be pretty strict about things like the media mail rate, where they reject things the inclusion of extras so maybe they've just extended that to letters...
I would still assume that a card, in an envelope, with no extras, would pass just fine assuming appropriate postage for its weight.
However, again, there's (at last check) only me participating from the US, so the likelihood of anyone getting assigned me is rather low and if you do, then we'll just see what happens.
I'm not gonna ban anyone because they tried and the US decided to be an asshole about it.
