So... splice in some disk image data to the "junk" section in the DNA before fertilising that eggcell... for rather robust preservation! \=D/

IDK... most of us aren't carrying on with our fathers' hobbies, are we?

That wasn't the point, the point was the legacy itself. Also: slicing in of disk image data to kids' DNA!IDK... most of us aren't carrying on with our fathers' hobbies, are we?
Let me cut this Gordian knot. No, I don't think our legacy will be passed down. There are too few to carry on, and they will have even fewer. The demoscene will become an obscure subculture from the end of the 20th century, one of many forgotten communities. There is no reason for it to happen otherwise. Just like fire needs fuel, heat and oxygen to burn, and stops as either one is taken away, the demoscene has lost many of its elements, and it only still exists because of our memories.
However, this doesn't mean the demoscene is over. It may be rediscovered, recreated, and it may reappear. They who will make demos 100 years into the future may or may not know about us. Even if they did, perhaps one of them would post a link in a forum to an old Wikipedia article or something, with a comment such as: "Hey guys, look at this! Could it be that our great-grandfathers were actually doing what we are doing?? CRAZY LOL!!"
Have you ever read the investigation reports of the Titanic disaster?
(Well, what's that got to do with anything? A lot!)
During the investigation, it's been speculated that the radio operator of SS Californian, the ship which was quite close to the Titanic, turned his equipment off because the operator of Titanic was very rude to him. As a consequence, the Californian did not receive the distress calls, and did not aid the sinking ship. Later testimonies clarified that Titanic's operator wasn't rude at all. It was common among wireless operators on the Atlantic to banter.
And that's what has a lot to do with us...
These radio operators were doing *exactly* what is so common in today's internet culture. They had their own lingo, abbreviations corresponding to LOL, STFU, etc., and even nicknames and memes. Young men messaging each other in an uncontrolled medium instinctively implemented the same patterns as we did 100 years later, in a completely different setting.
I am certain that one day, a new subculture will emerge around computers, fed by the same factors that created the demoscene. Fire may need only three ingredients, the demoscene needs more. It's a result of certain social, technological and other conditions. Should these conditions emerge once more, the demoscene will return and thrive. We may not see it, and they may not know about us. Or maybe... they will.
The term you're looking for is "convergent evolution".

Such a long message to say that wokeness kills the demoscene. This take doesn't start to make more sense if you wrap it in more words.

v3nom, can you go 5 minutes without pestering me? Now you're also proving that you can't understand written text. There's literally not a fucking word here about wokeness. But you really want it to be there, because... crusader complex, I guess? I suggest to STFU if you can't say anything meaningful.
well what's your "boys will be boys" and if you don't let them the fucking Titanic will sink argument supposed to be about then?
Like I said, you're incapable of reading and understanding flowing text. Your demented mind is so full of "muh progress" that you automatically assume anything I write must be something about politics, and conform to your petty stereotypes. And of course, you must lash out, because it's your sacred duty!
None of what I wrote even remotely means what you assume.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say "massaging".
Have fun with your fantasies.
Masagin
massaging sailor boys from the titanic is indeed a weird fantasy to have... oh well, good thing this thread gets preserved for the future too!

you complain there is a lack of newcomers. then you complain about people who been actively encouraging newcomers to release (who would otherwise give up on actively participating because the release quality bar is too high for them to match without the years of experience required, if they would release winner releases only).
as a newcomer to the scene myself I have to say that ps’s view really resonates with me. it indeed can feel quite daunting making a prod and not falling into the trap of comparing oneself. earnest encouragements for one’s efforts can go a long way imo.
