RIP Stingray
category: general [glöplog]
This was real bad "news". Had plenty of chats (and a few beers too) with him at the German Easter parties over the years and he was always doing his best to be helpful with archiving, code and whatnot. R.I.P.
Damn. An Amiga legend gone from earth way too early. RIP, Stingray.
Oh no :( And I'm receiving this sad news on my birthday :( I met him at Revision when we were frantically trying to find a bug in Sushi Boyz - he suddenly approached us and asked if we needed help.
To me it's quite shocking that for 7 months no one knew that he had left us? R.I.P. Reinhold.

Last day I had contact with R (aka StingRay, aka Stingie, aka maestro Sting) was very last day of November. We have decades of a beautiful friendship.
The sad message that you left, came as a shock. I know that you found other hobbies in Life, but your dedication to the Scene, with the minimalistic patience to bend the bits was admirable. Your brain was like a compiler and you could read binary code it seemed. You also had a deterministic way of declaring things, pointless to argue against. Only a fool would do that, to see that you were right in the end.
I remember your flat and some party nights. Some found you difficult, but we always came along. I remember you for a broad knowledge easy for any conversation and in depth insights no matter what we talked about. I think your Universe could be declared, not leavning many things to chance. If the World is black and white, we both would choose black ;)
I am very greatful to have met you in my Life.
My condolences to family, releatives and dear friends.
Scroll in peace my friend,

RIP, StingRay. So sad to hear. And so late after it happened. :-(
Very sad news. Thank you for all the programming help during the years. RIP
RIP
This is so sad. Great guy both online and IRL. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace Stingray :(
"If you're reading this message, chances are you know Stingray, and know that our friend recently passed away. We in Scoopex wish to make a suitable dedication to Stingray, and we realise that he had many friends on the Amiga scene that would also like to get involved. We're planning a Message Box style Amiga demo for release 22 June as a Memorial Book, and we encourage everyone who knew him to email stingray@scoopex1988.org with a message you'd like shown. It's best if you keep it short, say 5 to 80 words or so, and please provide your (scene/forum/real) name."
fuck death. rip
Damn, no... A coding legend, and a kind, hard-working, altruistic guy. So grateful for his help and his words of encouragment to everyone, here and all around the community. What a stinging loss.
I don't think I know a demoscener, myself included, who hasn't had invaluable help from StingRay over the years. He never got tired of fixing my shitty ASM, and I'm glad I got to help him with some tunes in return. We had great IRL hangouts at parties that I'll always remember fondly. A heartbreaking loss. RIP, pal.
What, no.
:'(
:'(
I am shocked and saddened :(
Thanks for letting me meet you in person....
Rest in peace my friend

The Amiga scene still hasn't fully grasped the huge loss of both human quality and technical knowledge that its passing has caused.
Farewell, my friend! :(
Farewell, my friend! :(
Life fucking sucks, it keeps alive absolute pieces of shit until they're very old, and it takes away real ones like StingRay way too soon.
His skills were incomparable when it came to the Amiga and my love project would not have been initially possible without his help. Although we spent some time online arguing with each other for no good fucking reason, we were able to bury the hatchet when we grew older and less youngy-fiery-hardheaded ;) I always appreciated his work and knowledge and we owe a lot to him in the scene.
Rest in peace, legend.

Rough news indeed.
We've posted news and we're going to make a memorial prod for him.
If you want your message in it, please click the email I created there, and send your message. Cheers.

He was one of the few that knew the things behind the things, and he was one of the reason it was worth to drive 1000km to attend parties. Friendly and Helpful guy. Sad-Sad. ... Sad-Sad-Sad. Did I wrote "Sad" ? Not enough.
OH NO! Shit.... He was a great guy, cracker and coder. I chatted with him a lot on parties and on IRC in the early 2000s. Unfortunately we kinda lost touch in the past ten years or so. I wish I would have reached out to him more often. My condolences to all his friends.
Goddamnit, stop dying you people :~(
he was my best scene buddy during the 2000s. we spent countless weekends in his mancave, doing amiga things, having goldkrone and crisps with horseradish cream. his flat was always filled with people. it seemed like he knew everybody in eastern berlin. in between all that, we still managed to knock out a few productions for breakpoint's amiga compos.
it was always easy to get him to chuckle. we spent a lot of rides going to parties, some of them quite memorable for various stingray moments. :)
we didn't have much contact in recent years. the last time we met in person was at deadline in 2022 or 2023. he still read my birthday greetings last november, but never replied. i didn’t really think much of it at the time. and now i hear the bad news.
i still have his complete amiga configuration from the early 2000s, something very personal that i’ll always keep.
mach's gut, junge :(

Rest in peace mate.. don't know what to say.. I am shocked..
RIP
I'm not really into eulogies or sycophancy, but this hurts deeper that i thought it would.
The few times we interacted was always in friendly terms & we never argued, i knew he was really skilled. I just wish i could have told this man more clearly that i really respected him for all he has done, now it's too late :(
