So my coding/game development college organization is preparing a Revision satellite nex Saturday, and this got me thinking: are there any other demoparties that do satellites (or at least promote local watchalongs)?

Satellites are Revision's innovation, nobody did it before them. However, if you like demos so much, why don't you organize a demo screening? We had quite a few in Hungary some years ago, and they were very popular, quite like mini-demoparties.

local meetups for watching livestream of remote party together existed before revision coined them as satellite events during the pandemic. they were called shadow parties. i organized a handful of them in portugal and i know of others having happened in other countries aswell but usually they were not officially / openly promoted. just sceners who couldn't make the long trip to watch the compos together and socialize with some friends.

Shadow parties are great. Would be nice if they get more representation on the main event.

have I missed something? Aren't the satellite/shadow parties supposed to happen concurrently with the main party?

ferris: revision is a bit more flexible with that, some happen after the event and just re-show the highlights whilst the people who get a ticket ahead of time allows them to compete at revision remotely.

do online only parties get satellite events? like your lovebyte and stuff...

lovebyte and transmission had some small watching parties, yes. but they are usually unnoficial things organized on the side.

mountain bytes was it's own event, not related to lovebyte. though they did stream some of lovebyte content on the hall. dates happened to coincide this year.
