Revision 2025 - Grow Beyond - April 18th to 21st 2025

category: parties [glöplog]
I understand the concerns some people have about ticket affordability, to a degree I share that sentiment too. However, let's also stay realistic- compared to music festivals, or even more closely related, hacker camps, tickets for Revision are still relatively affordable. For example a ticket for this summer's WHY camp costs a whopping 333,33 euro. OK that event is 5 and not 4 days, but still it's still almost 2,5 times the price.

Entrance fee is reasonable yes. But I get that there is a generational and North-South revenue gap issue.
I probably consumed 115euros worth of the complimentary coffee just to survive the PC demo block.

if that was truly the case, then the demoscene would honestly deserve to die.

Not that i believe it does, though. We all know the demoscene lives and thrives without, and even *despite of*, the AI hype cycle.

Most of the friends around my age I have and I could potentially persuade one day to join the demoscene absolutely HATE AI with a passion stronger than even I do, so I feel like not banning AI will scare off more people than it'd attract.
@minebrandon: Please my friend, don't chop off my words that way when you quote me.

I hope the bold text helps clarify the logical structure of that thought when translated into English.

I'm one of those rare people whose thoughts (most of them) don't use words, and when I communicate, it takes me a while to think exactly how I should translate my ideas to be well understood. It's not very pleasant to see sentences cut off like that, as if the beginning of the sentence were filler or whatever.

Maybe you're right and I'm wrong in thinking that completely banning AI will destroy the scene. But I would be very surprised if those friends you mention and describe as people who hate AI much more than you do were people who would contribute to improving the general atmosphere and the courtesy (or rather, lack of courtesy) owed to authors who freely choose to use whatever tools they want to use to create their works.

please don't make this thread yet another AI debate friends, we have separate threads for that.

I think the debate boils down to attribution problem. AI today is in a sort of uncanny valley - somewhere between a blatant copy and "novel" mix of training data (based on very shallow comprehension).

But yeah, it should be a separate thread.

We just need a database/board of people having some free time at their hands and willing to help other with projects. AI is for lazy wankers and represents everything the demoscene hated since early ages - plagiarism, cut-the-corner attitude, no talent, no creativity, etc.

or

just add some extra compos and see who the best prompt artist is. Be it a AI-graphics or AI-music or AI-spectrum demo, but for the fox sake - do not insult true talents with allowing AI schmucks to compete at the same level.

If you put it this way, it makes a lot of sense. AI wanking is despicable indeed. But, to the defense of this prod again, it was fully disclosed. I see everyone is now holier than thou, but who didn't start his music or graphics journey by ripping samples or drawing pixel art on top of scans.

I'm going to lose my fucking mind more than I already have. (It's even on the Pouet front page for crying out loud!)

Pin it then on the landing page with flashing frame around for everyone who does not have PhD in pouet to notice its existence :)

But if you don't know it exists you won't search for it. Especially not on the bottom right corner of the front-page. I knew that wanted exists, but I never knew that it was linked from pouet, until now. ;o)

Here's a radical idea - lets make a demo about it. Not the perceived page layout issue, but wanted.scene.org.

But a demo about the »perceived page layout issue« would be more funny. :D

To get the thread a bit more on-topic again, here's the full-quality 16-bit version of our tracked music entry. Enjoy!

Except it's not? I'm staring at https://www.pouet.net/ right now and don't see "wanted", and a search of the source dump does not have the text "wanted" anywhere in it. What am I missing?

Gaspode said "bottom right corner" but I'm not seeing anything there either. I have all adblocking turned off just in case that would cause issues.

It is on the frontpage. "Bottom right" was probably a bit too vague, it's the second-to-last box in the right sidebar.

----

To drop in to the main part of the post: The easter weekend has been an absolute blast again.

Thanks to the orga for making this possible again, and also thanks to everyone who submitted all this awesome stuff this year.

Was great to meet old and new friends and I can't wait for next year already.

Open the custoomizer thing in the upper left. It should be the next to last box, set it to something > 0.

I've been sick all week so here's my super later 2 cents of feedback:

The good:

- Cocktail bar was amazing as always
- Fireplace was stocked up all the time
- Pizza stand was incredible
- Network, power, sound system, big screen were excellent
- Toilets were pretty clean, all things considered
- Had a great time with friends

The meh:

- Please make your sponsors disclose if they're involved with cryptocurrency or AI. I did not enjoy having to find out that I almost submitted to a "Web3 Citizenship project".
- Please ban generative AI, or at least disqualify entries that fail to properly disclose it. I don't wanna accuse anyone without proof, but my BS detectors went off on a couple of prods that did not disclosue AI.
- It's a bit too much. The schedule is too busy, there's rarely any breaks, but yet compos and sets run until 5 AM. Part of the party experience for me is talking to people. I felt like i had less opportunity to do that than previous years. Shorter compo blocks with more preselection would help imo.
- The app did not work for me. All i saw was the start screen, none of the menu options worked. Notifications did work

I had to reset the settings to even see that. We had similar quirky behaviour at csdb - something was added after users already saved their settings, which made it not show up. Oh well :)

You needed to swipe left on that start screen. Really bad app design to be honest, and it fooled me too, until my daughter told me about the swipe.

Still a bit sick from a cold I guess I managed to get at revision :D However that is a small price for all the nice talks, long and short and even if it was only an "hi" here and there. It was fun once again! But I guess I need to train a bit more for the schnappspumpe next time :D And as some already pointed out: The pizza was way tastier this year! Overall revision was nice once again - also thanks to the mostly dry weather.

Regarding prices: A supporter ticket would be way too much for me personally. But as already suggested a donation option would be really nice. Or would buying a bunch of coupons w/o using them also help? Or would that disturb the cash flow when making the final calculations after the party?
