Revision 2025 - Grow Beyond - April 18th to 21st 2025
category: parties [glöplog]
@D.Fox ;-)
so many young folks and newcomers at the party. average age definitely dropped this year. like wtf! i'm stoked!
Thanks for yet another absolutely stellar Easter weekend. I loved every second of it! A few random thoughts:
- Awesome pizza stand, please bring it back next year! Was glad to see the burgers returning as well.
- Presentation of Partymeister options was confusing at best in the PC demo compo. No context was provided, about halfway into the compo it finally started making sense.
- So many new and old friends to talk to! And yet so many I missed to have a chat with due to the busy schedule... Hopefully at the next party!
- Great selection of pinball machines!
- Pandora's box has been opened, let's try to close it again. It's beyond my understanding how people can think it's a good idea to use full AI-generated soundtracks when there's dozens of musicians on wanted.scene.org asking to collaborate. +1 for banning commercial / pre-trained GenAI tools.
- Despite that, awesome compos with overall high quality.
I wasn't particularly bothered by the long compo nights myself, though it does feel like something should be done about it. I won't play the armchair expert that knows exactly what needs to change because I know that won't help at all.
See you at the next Revision!

Look, I'm here too!
Overall great event, it was a lot of fun once again, and I'm glad I could be part of the people who made it happen (once again). Here's to a bunch more Revisions in the future!
Thanks to all the people working their butts off behind the scenes, a lot goes into making a party happen.
Remain confident for the next one.

We will have the stream always and I cannot see it to be a paid stream ever. The viewers never had to pay to watch.
Maybe a "Donate any amount of money"-option would be helpful here.
E.g. I couldn't attend Revision in person this year and only watched the stream for a few hours. Consequently, €35 felt excessive for the online ticket.
But I would have happily paid let's say €10 voluntarily (without a votekey/right to submit entries), simply to support your awesome work and make some kind of compensation for the free stream access.

Thanks for the input. I’ll bring it up with the team.
The party was super fun and very, very well organized, kudos to everyone in the organizer team! Nearly everything worked like a well oiled machine.
What didn't work: voting in the Android smartphone app. I tried numerous times during the party, but Voting and Livevoting never ever proceeded past the "loading compos" or whatever screen. I don't think any of my mates got it working either. Yes, we were registered and logged in. Not a showstopper as in the end I voted using a web browser.

Here is a fresh Revision party report by Lastic.
Oh yeah, one thing I forgot, one time the live voting page was still open in my browser but it seems like the login cookie expired in the meantime, looking like my votes were accepted but after logging in again, they were gone.
Many thanks to Charlie (Compo Team), for having made a CDTV available and recorded the prod for us.
And many thanks to Sir Garbagetruck (Commentary) and Subi (Commentary) for their sympathy and congrats to all orgas in general.

@pyksy weird Android app worked for me. the wifi however. was questionable.. and 5G internet in germany.. do not get me started.. but it worked. .however slow
I'd gladly pay for a NO COMMENTS stream for that matter :)
Regarding the AI-discussion, I have a question:
As far as I understand there were checkboxes in the upload-form for PC-demos (and other compos), where you have to explain, if you used AI in your prod and the portion of it.
So as a newcomer it seems that the use of AI was allowed. According to the general rules:
»No AI generated or inspired entries in graphics and music compos. No purely AI content in other compos.«
So it's a little bit unwise to thumb newcomers down, although they don't broke any rules. Because they could easily turn away from the scene, and I think no one of us want that. (By the way: I refer to this prod.)
If you don't want AI at the party you have to forbid it completely!

gaspode: that's not a question..?

Oops. ;o)gaspode: that's not a question..?
People are allowed to thumb down things they personally don't like, even if those things aren't against the compo rules.
What gaspode says.. I can read in YT description: "Soundtrack crafted using Udio V1.0 (Gen-AI), Audacity and Cubase.", which is not purely AI generated.
There are other prods also featuring AI-inspired music (example) that nobody thumbs down.
But sure, burn the witch with fire or whatever...

Perhaps it's time to extent the "No purely AI content" rule to music and graphics compos.
Because it's clear that new generations have already integrated AI tools in their workflow.
And if you want a scene where trust prevails and people can share what tools they've used without being crucified, then you have to admit that if you completely ban AI, there will soon be no more new demosceners.
You have to start believing that the artists of the future won't outsource EVERYTHING to an AI but will use it wisely.
If you can't believe this, then the scene is already dead.

Nah if someone does that on a prod containing AI then they are ”biocentric haters who insist on restricting the creative freedom of the demo's author.”
The only allowed opinion is to embrace AI, and everything else is just rude and mean and really mean and rude and uncivilized, and also it means that if you don’t share this opinion then you are killing the scene since the AI models and the companies training them are here to make your life easier and you are just really nasty if you don’t like this.

OMFG so AI usage is a matter of nothing less than the very existance of the scene. Disturbing. Reminds me of Altman’s “we have to snatch your stuff without paying for it because China”.
Just a few words to say one more time a big thanks to the organizing team.
Since 2011, Revision stay an incredible experience (compos, foods, friendship, coffee, toilets :), congrats for that!

ham, uncle-x, 4gentE: we need another thread for this. It's surely a loaded topic.
In reality those people won't give a damn if it is banned or not - they will use it regardless. You should be thankful for those that are honest enough to even say so.

@tomkh, thanks I think the same.
Demo Party Golden Triangle:
- Cheap Entrance Fee
- Well organized, solid and event stacked party with something for everyone.
- Compos that don't end at 4AM
You can only pick two.
