Revision 2025 - Grow Beyond - April 18th to 21st 2025
category: parties [glöplog]
What uncle-x said.
what fizzer said
+1 to ban AI everywhere.
Ideas for the future:
- Move all party invitations to separate compo
- Re-run the top 10 PC demos in the morning, say 8.30-9.00 for those who gave up waiting once again till 3AM to see the best of them.

both excellent ideas!
Additional idea: game compo videos should be no longer than 2 minutes, and maybe have that on saturday?

I never understood why the game compo is so late. Why not give people a chance to play the games on sunday before the compos start?
if feasable: think about a small compo block on friday evening (e.g. 2 or 3 compos which deadline on Friday, 18:00).
Was my first time there in person and I don't regret it. It was extremely fun and nice to meet likeminded people. Likely will be there next year too. Also +1 to banning AI and maybe moving invitationals into its own section.
There should have just been a separate Shadow Party Invitation competition and that alonr would have had way more entries than pc 64k :)
Some of us on Discord were also discussing the possibility of moving the game compo earlier. The compo itself is sort of an advertisement for each game entry, since to really judge a game you should play it for yourself (ideally). An extra day would give people a better chance to do just that - especially during times when the hottest compos aren't about to begin.
Revision 2025 is over - here is some after party information
Thank you all for being here, it was an enjoyable experience! <3

I have just watched PC demo compo and I must say I am a bit worried about that AI slop and lack of renew in the scene. The two "bangers" are by MFX and Exist that are made of quite middle-aged guys (i'm one as an ex-Scoopex...) who still have a passion for demoscene spirit : pushing the limits and delivering impressive stuff first.
I hope there’s some fresh blood out there to keep the flame and passion alive.
Maybe it’s also time for the scene to get a bit more media exposure—to attract new young enthusiasts who might be drawn to the evolving world of the demoscene. It's no longer just a bunch of slightly odd guys (and I count myself among them) locking themselves in a freezing warehouse for three days—those who remember the first Breakpoints or other parties from the '90s know what I mean.
Of course, that probably means doing the work even more: communication, education, outreach to younger people. Creating demoscene clubs in schools. Showing what the pioneers did—and proving that even in the age of Generative AI, we can still push the boundaries further. GPU manufacturers should love that. After all, the demoscene is finally being recognized for what it truly is. In France, the Ministry of Culture has even documented it as part of our intangible artistic heritage.
Of course, this is just my opinion, but I get the feeling that once Revision or Assembly is over, not much truly creative happens anymore.
Honestly, I’ve had so many amazing moments in the demoscene—it shaped me, both professionally and personally. It gave me that drive to create, to push my own limits, and to witness others (far better than me, like Made!) pushing theirs and doing incredible things. That’s something I can only hope for the new generations to experience as well.
Anyway, it seemed a hell of a party (and probably I will make to Revision next year :)

Oxb:
if you would have been at revision in person, you would not be worried.
Scene is far away from being dead..

Hey stop right there I don’t feel middle-aged…

Ok I’ll allow it.
my first revision at home, so weird, but it felt at times I was there due to the amazing coverage and stable streams :blessed:. Thank you so much for making me feel so close to you all! Some incredible prods released (some of which all ended way lower in the ranking than I thought, weird that) and so sad to have missed MBR live :tearemoji:
Also special thanks to "musicman/speedfisters" for being an absolute delight supporting truck on stream for the pc demo compo!

It was a nice party. But I missed many old faces who were there last year. I'm pretty sure the overall visitor number was lower - last year we had a much tighter packed main hall, particularly during the compos.

Nobody stops you from doing this. Start small, go bigger from there. But discussing this is probably worth a different thread (although I don't share your opinion, as I see lots of active "Newcomers" who are producing high quality releases. (there's more than just pc demo compo at revision, you know)

Thanks for yet another fantastic edition of Revision. One can feel the love and effort put into every single feature of the party.
I loved the new pizza foodstand - you now have a really excellent assortment of food and drinks, all stands are top notch.
Cocktails were amazingly good as well, I'm happy I only started drinking them on the last day, because else my hangover would've been even worse I guess.
Live Acts were superb as well, especially MBR was an absolute highlight.
Compos were great and smoothly organized as well.
Will catch up on the Seminar recordings later.
And then catching up with so many lively people of course, and doing some deadline promo shenanigans was fun as well.
What I'm trying to say: THANKS, I love you all. <3
(and now back to slowly dying in DB trains)

AI slop: yes please, I mean, no please. AI has pretty much became what scanners used to be in the 1990s, except it's not even seen as cheating.
Outreach: I'm not generally into that, or at least not as advertising the scene for everyone. Sure, we welcome newcomers and generally everybody, but the scene is supposed to be an underground culture. That's what it really makes it what it is. Have you ever seen, say, graffiti artists, punk bands or street dancers recruiting at schools? No - if you were meant to find them, you would. Just like us. Let newcomers come to us, but let them come when they are ready.

Do a average age check and see, i bet its 45+ or even higher...
Amazing party once again. All possible THANKS! ❤️
The scene is finally dead. Non a single interesting production, maybe except the gloomy and darkest demo from ASD.
15 glöps, no prods.
Just returned this morning and started ProTracker for the first time in 2 years, so expect us to meet again in 2026. ;)
