So, how dead is it?

All Top-Ten prods of all time are more than 13 years old,
some of the highest ranked prods are even 20 years old!
so is the scene dead?
lol.
Quote:
as dead as your understanding of statistics!
lol, again.
Sure, many factors play role, but indeed it just accumulates I guess, more time more thumbs. Also there will be some all-time high visibility bias.

Pouet just is biased towards old farts.
I'm not! Give me 10 more years and I'll join the club. Until then, I've got some prods to make! :P

Don't wanna promise too much, because time is running, but we're working at it. :)
Having “only” the RTX 3070 available for linux prods is a little sad though, but I fully understand this from an organizer perspective, so we'll see. In the end this should not be critical.
As one of the responsible orgas at Zenta: if you bring a prod that really benefits from being run on one of the bigger cards, I‘m sure we can figure something out. Just tell us enough in advance so we have time to prepare.

Oh, cool! We will do our best working at performance measures for now. If we still find it would benefit from it, I will come back to this. Thanks a lot for the offer (and for organizing the party of course! :)
Maybe the demoscene could aquire another promising scene for 44 billion dollars in order to renew itself?
We’d only fuck it up by requiring everyone to be “leet”
"extreme leet"!
10k leet!

That's quite logical. Because older prods had more time to collect likes/piggy/dislikes.
Are there even enough active users for anything to be able to catch up with the all-time top list?
ah, the debater is back!
I wonder if adding more context make demoscene prods more interesting.
For oldschool prods it could be fun to read about what insane limitations got overcome by clever trickery.
For PC productions I bet there are lots of things to write about as well, but I rarely read any PC "making of" rants.
More ranting about your own prods would be nice!

"adding more context make" -> "adding more context would make"
CSDB have separate Trivia and Summary pages per prod, so there's history but also encouragement to add background info for new releases there.
That's nice! Just checked csdb and found all these
· Summaries
· Production Notes
· Goofs
· Hidden Parts
· Trivia
Pretty comprehensive! I think Pouet's "author comments" and "nfo" go some way to encouraging the authors to write about the prod, but dedicated fields may make encourage it further.
When looking at an entry on CGNetworks or Art Station there is often a story or steps attached. It makes it all more rich. Cracktro? How did you crack the copy protection Restoration is also quite interesting. F.ex Stingray posted on FB a Whdload patch repo that shows how to fix a bunch of prods and make them HD installable.

Another thing is that I notice there are online emulators. Tic-80 or Pico platforms can be viewed online. I've also visited a Da Jormas page which hosted an A500 emulator so you could view their demos online. This may be a way to get rid of emulator setup hassle for those who don't know their slow ram from their fast ram.. blabla

That's so cool, I had no idea.
Nice suggestions, loaderror. I'm also always super inetrested in these kind of background infos, I feel they are often very inspiring and motivate me to do stuff.
good idea, introduce even more bureaucracy around releasing demos! :P

If it's optional, I think it's fine. No one should be forced to write a making of, but if people have fun doing it that's nice. I really like the idea!
I think the current format of highlighting comments by people in the demo credits works fine for finding technical info, trivia, and other production notes. I suppose you could make a comment "sticky" at the top but that seems low priority. Otherwise, an external link to a "minisite" for more technical info and behind-the-scenes looks should suffice.
One other thing CSDB does is each prod has it's own forum thread automatically. (I think) So if someone wants to have a technical discussion or whatever it'll end up in there, but still linked from the prod page. It's quite a good idea because the reviews on the prod page are less likely to get derailed by one conversation.
This is also the same for parties, online competitions etc. If you click through a prod and then click on the party it was released you'll see the results (like here), but also people who were there and then usually a discussion thread. I guess this does make a lot more sense with it being a historical database.

I honestly don’t know if I care enough to add my releases to pouet anymore.
The whole “host the binary yourself” (or wait for scene.org) and single lowres screenshot doesn’t help. But the bigger problem is, that for me it went so far old school that it no longer provides any meaningful creative input or feedback.
I am not sure what an alternative creative platform would look like… definitely not instagram.
Must be my winter depression kicking in.
Well hosting it yourself is still an option right?
