Deadline 2022 | 30.09. - 02.10. | Berlin, Germany
category: parties [glöplog]
Update on the compo rules:
* Fantasy-Consoles (eg. Pico-8 or TIC-80) allowed in 256b compo. - we asked regarding this on the Sizecoding wiki and got the general feedback, that on a party that doesn't specialize on sizecoding it makes sense to have one compo, that allows all platforms
* No AI images allowed in the gfx compos - clarified this and made it a bit stricter since it caused confusion and discussions on where to draw the line if we say no "pure AI" images.
* And the theme for the photo compo this year is: "Where no AI has gone before" - looking forward for what you can come up with!
...and don't forget the most important rule in all compos: Have fun :)

Ah, and one more compo-related announcement:

A couple of announcements:
* Mobile Planetarium
In cooperation with the Planetarium Berlin and the Computerkunst e.V. we are very happy to announce that will have a mobile Planetarium on site on Saturday* (*if it's not raining)
It has the size of 9x9m and 30 people can fit into the dome at the same time - there will be an 30mins interactive program by the planetarium on multiple slots over the day.
If you happen to have a 360 degree / VR version of your demo please contact us under contact@demoparty.berlin - they would be very interested in also showing demoscene content. Maybe we could also do an improvised shader coding on the dome, but that will be tested and decided at the location.
* Compo PC upgrade:
We will have a PC with a Geforce GTX 3090 and one with a GF 3070 available
* Timetable and Partysystem are being finalized
By the end of the week we will have a proper timetable and announce some more acts and also make the online partysystem available for remote uploads

<3 looking forward to the party! will likely bring 4kilobyte of executable graphics:)
Small update for DOS entries that shall appear on the website soon as well: For faithful General MIDI playback, a Roland Sound Canvas SC-88 will be used. Instruments are pretty much the same as in Windows' built-in MIDI synthesizer, but they sound much better.
...and here's a preview of this years T-Shirt design, we hope you like it :) :
awesome shirt, so much looking forward to wearing it!
What dipswitch said! Cool!

Btw. Important Reminder about our Cobid Safety Rules at this years Deadline:
We hope this will make your party experience as safe and comfortable as possible :)
- We urge everyone to do a quick self-test before they come, to ensure safety for everyone
- We will provide a stock of self-test also at the infodesk, but if possible do it at home before you go
- Please refrain from coming when you’re not feeling well or have any covid-related symptoms. Just write us a mail and we will fully reimburse your entry-fee, no questions asked.
- There's no mask obligation, but free ffp2 masks will be available at the infodesk and you are encouraged to use them, as you see fit
- We will make use of the new ventilation system the ORWOHaus has in place. On its maximum level, it can exchange the air of the whole hall within around 10 minutes.
- Because there is no ventilation system in the sleeping hall, we can't provide a sleeping hall unfortunately. Sleeping in the main hall (eg. under your desk) would be possible (but loud), better take a hotel or crash at a Berlin sceners sofa. Camping is possible as well, but you should know what you're doing, it's cold at night.
- Of course there will be hand-sanitizers ready, eg. at the impfodesk, gaming area, toilets and bar. We will also provide a sticker system to show your preference in terms of contact.
- We will hire an external cleaning service to do some extra rounds at the toilets during the party.
We hope this will make your party experience as safe and comfortable as possible :)
Thank you for all your efforts in setting this up - I really can't wait to be in ORWOHaus again. Budget airlines, don't fail me now!!

This year we’re proud to present a fantastic live act, who have their home base at the ORWOHaus Musikfabrik – Nuno & The End:
Quote:
A solo act by Nuno Filipe where, by atmospheric sounds, a psychedelic and sometimes neurotic maze of reflective travel is proposed to the audience. An almost imperfect symbiosis between sound, will, a guy, two keyboards, and one or two lamps.

Hey people who plan to submit something to the Three-Dee compo (or have already made entries),
I always wanted to write down a bunch of thoughts about the physics of stereoscopic images because often enough the 3D effect just won't work on the big screen even tho it looked totally fine on your monitor at home, and I've finally gotten around to it.
Yeah, it's a bit late, I know :) but here it is, and it'll stay valid in the years to come:
https://gist.github.com/kebby/e6ca7c40e276a30727f59de25d5c2dae
The tl;dr is: Because Nature Sucks (TM) you'll have to really, really tone down that 3D so it still works on the big screen. 15 pixels at 1920x1080 (or less at smaller resolutions; on a C64 it's more like, 4) is the absolute maximum your left and right images can be apart from each other before you start breaking people's brains. A more thorough explanation plus bonus math in the article :)
