What is you suggestion of getting the effects run separately/standalone. The files seem to indicate that (but it worked for none of my incompatible machines) So what about the lake scene? Do you think it's possible to run that on "not 100%" compatible hardware in the future?

The lake scene is arguably the most demanding part in terms of compatibility, and as such the least likely to work on anything that is not 100% cycle-accurate.
There is also no room to make it more compatible with other hardware.

Nice, better than expected! Loses sync a lot on the external monitor, but something tells me a lot of it is just the monitor being picky, not necessarily CGA compatibility issues. For example the Marble Madness part appears to work fine, while the tall multi-screen image (~5:22) doesn't. Although as far as the monitor is concerned the only real difference is the overscan color...
The Sharp PC-4600 appears to have an 80188 CPU, which is not cycle-exact to an 8088, it's slightly faster at the same clock speed.
That is likely going to throw off some effects.

This does not seem like the correct course of action to run a cga-register-level, 8088-cycle-counted demo.

This is the Adapter I am using on my EuroPC, Tandy1000 and on that Sharp PC4600 to convert MDA/CGA/EGA to VGA on a suitable TFT like my Nec 71vm. I already tested this Adapter against my real 1084S and there was no difference on the EuroPC, but I did not have tested this with the sharp yet. Now I am on vacation for 10 days. Best regards Doc.

That's not an IBM CGA card.
I have a 13” 2021 MacBook Pro with an M1 processor. Will that work?
instead of looking for old compatible hardware I would give FPGA a try
