ZINE - The Radio Show

category: general [glöplog]
Thanks!
Can you imagine it has already been a month again? It's March, and with that we present you episode 22!

We are really excited about this episode - with a twist: For the first time in a while, we are venturing beyond the demoscene and talk to Alex McLean, a key figure of the Algorave movement, who livecode music for a dancing crowd, and have built a great community over the past ten years.

So, join us to hear the guys exploring eerie similarities and interesting differences between our scenes and find opportunities to explore new frontiers, what baskets and blankets have to do with coding, okkie saying "IN DOOOOOS" one last time when recapitulating Lovebyte... and a look at Revision's survey responses that led to the decision of organising satellite events for Easter!

un, DOS, tres!
Thanks for another interesting episode. I would've like to hear some audio clips of some algorave shows to make it more concrete. Can't wait what's next :)

Yeah, the early episodes tended to have a lot of audio clips. If you'd want to keep it up in general, the question would be if a podcast format can do it justice though, as most of our content is about audio-*visual* production.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Eulerroom Youtube channel for anyone that wants to take a closer look into algoravers' shows and process, and check out the other links in the episode:

We can't wait to bring you the next episode either - I might only spoil that we're already very excited about our guest and have our recordings soon. And that it will of course be season-appropriate. But with a twist. ;)

holy shit you're interviewing the easter bunny next?

To answer ps' question: Not quite the Easter bunny, but certainly a well-known figure from Easter traditions. :)

It's finally here, welcome to Episode 23!

25 years ago in Northern Germany, an Amiga/C64 demoparty called "Symposium" and a PC demoparty called "Mekka" decided to merge into one common demoscene event on Easter, bringing the home computer and PC demoscene under one roof - Something almost unthinkable at the time.
This was the beginning of a tradition that was eventually carried on by Breakpoint and resulted in Revision, the world's biggest pure demoparty.

Ah, the kids we were...! But wait, what about kids today? In the second half of the episode, we explore how kids perceive the digital world today, how they enter it, concepts and pitfalls of current media education, and if the demoscene can still be relevant for this generation.

So what better time of the year to invite Steeler, orga of Mekka & Symposium as well as a media education advisor these days, looking all the way from the 1980s and compare it to the next generation's approach to creativity and tinkering.

Hope this is a treat to everyone who is right now rushing for the Revision compo deadlines (you can do it, okkie!!) - and everyone else can enjoy this massively long and jam-packed episode as well, getting ready for Easter weekend (and finally get some of the Scene Elders' insider jokes)!

Some "supplementary material" for the latest episode ;)
680XX Convention page at Demozoo, and a video of the demo compo at the same party mentioned by Steeler. There are some quite well known prods.
After an involuntary break, the boys are finally back!
And when hitting rough patches in life, how better to lift the spirits than with the epitome of cheerful bounciness amongst the demogroups?

In episode 24, we discuss Browser Demos with lulle and capitalism from Ninjadev, learn more about their tool nin (and renin!) and their creative process, ponder about the ever-evolving "but is it a real demo?"-question and follow up what our hosts have been up to during the break.

We are glad to be back - and missed you like crazy!

Also: Send okkie personal comments, love, questions on progress and reminders how much you are looking forward to his demo at Evoke! We are sure he'll be stoked!

Very nice episode, glad to have you back!
Welcome to episode 25, The Newcomer Experience!

The Scene is Dead! Well, except for the fact people are still joining us rather steadily.

Together with Tobach, we are getting a look into a newcomer's experience, how the pandemic and lack of physical parties, but also his love for tinkering and exotic oldschool devices impacted it.
And we got the opportunity to interview him right after his return from his first full-on demoparty, catching the excitement to finally join in on the fun in all its noisy, lovable... peculiarity.

Aaaaand we are of course celebrating okkie's first demo release! You did... a demo, okkie. We are proud of you. <3

Have a good Monday morning, hopefully sweetend with some throwbacks to your own first prod, your first party, finding friends in the scene and joining a group for the first time!

Welcome to episode 26, our biggest episode yet, “A Dive Into the Scene’s Psychology”!

Sceners are a peculiar bunch, juggling creativity and technical prowess, often even within the same individuals.
What does it do with us to create, compete and socialise in this environment? How can we take care of our own and others’ wellbeing, set boundaries and manage expectations?

We explore the psychology behind the demoscene, demoparties and demomaking with Tom, who does not just create amazing Atari-demos with Genesis Project, Effect and SMFX, but also lectures on Community Psychology at the University of Leeds.

We appreciate that even two hours can’t do justice to all angles of this complex topic. If you would like to share your thoughts, stories and questions, send them to zineradioshow (at) scene.org or to our social media accounts. If you are interested and we receive enough feedback, we might produce a follow-up in the future.
