What does Demosceners thinking about NFT?
category: general [glöplog]
Just to be clear, I think that the above illustrates perfectly what is capitalism, and how technology is increasing the contrast between the intelligent and the dumb.
yeah, that video is just people being stupid in hopes of money getting thrown at them
First of all, they burned a Picasso print, of which there are probably 49 surviving copies. Second, "live on forever", yeah sure.
Living forever... but living in hell, yeah sure.
Seems like the perfect metaphor of NFT. We can all go home, they proved the point we were making since the very beginning.
When I thought everything had been said, there's this slightly different take by Tom Forsyth, and I can't resist adding it here:

I really like NFTs for one very specific thing. They're great indicators of personality. There's a certain type of tech nerd that jumps from bandwagon to bandwagon. They sound knowledgeable because they keep five Wikipedia pages ahead of everyone else, but do no actual work.
I saw a lot of them pass by in VR, and I'm sure anybody who's spent time in ML has seen the exact same folks. And now with a bit of luck they're all into NFTs.
The problem with VR and ML is they (probably) have intrinsic worth, so it's hard to get too harsh on people who aren't actually cynically surfing the wave, but instead just trying to keep up. But NFTs are just a dead giveaway. Into the sea with the lot of you!
He could've just posted it himself :(
TIL Tom is in the Scene too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I can see value in the technology for things like decentralized license management instead of being on the mercy of some random company promising they keep their authentication servers online forever.
All the current uses I've seen though fall into bullshit and/or ponzi scheme categories though.

And to be honest I don't really expect this technology to be used for anything with real value, even if the potential exists. Using resources for something actually usable, but with minimal profits must be against the core philosophy of cryptofanatics :D
Sums it up pretty good https://twitter.com/smdiehl/status/1445795667826208770?lang=en
Let's all burn down the environment for a pointer to a thing we don't really own! /jk
NFTs as currently (ab)used are dumb. The concept isn't useless but there's no way I'd do anything with any existing stuff even with a 1,000 ft pole.

https://scenechain.org/ fucking hell
what the fuck, why are they advertizing with pandur's spider 3d model from our old demo?
Is grey screen with no music on there?
They took it from wikipedia LOL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene
Sound a lot like a try to scam stupid people on the back of the demoscene :/
Does anyone know the guy? He has his linkedin profile linked on the page (link, in case he takes it down again)

Almost tragicomic how this scenecoin is actually the best use of NFT I’ve seen. Without the money scamming aspect this would actually be interesting project.
And also possibly first time where the data in NFT is the data and not just a link to some gif etc
NFTs are disgusting on every level, but using other people's art without their permission in order to promote the idea really takes the cake
Absolutely delighted that all the demoscene content on that site has been removed :D

Isn't the fractal thingy currently adorning the site from some demo, or do I remember wrong?
