How to run a demoparty during a pandemic
category: residue [glöplog]
Hey Gabbie, if you don't want to be associated with nazis as I read in the now-closed Deadline thread, then maybe you should consider not asking your friends questions like this...
Quote:
would I be able to open a restaurant in Germany and not allow any Jews?
Is this the classic nazi card throw in?

Or you could just not quote that without the context :)
Ahhhh, so it's the context that makes this question OK? Golly gosh, I woud've never guessed!

Clearly it's a hypothetical question, or are you seriously suggesting that I want to open up a German restaurant and not allow any Jews?
Oh shit, I thought the debate was about having a demoparty during the pandemic, not the nazis. "anti-vax" VS "anti-science" was the last interesting point.
While I am in the "we had mandatory vaccinations during pandemics since the 1800s, and sometimes that just needs to be done" camp, I do understand that there are other world views on that, and that's OK.
We never historically had the situation that people were put into concentration camps so they get vaccinated.
And that's really why comparing the situation to the suffering of the jewish people in Germany should be off-limits. That's why I had responded extremely harshly to gabbie.
Let's try to get back a bit on topic: It's clear already that there is not a single position we all can agree on, and we don't need to. As charlie has said, Function will run pretty much only with the absolutely legally mandated restrictions. Deadline has a strict policy (for good reasons). UC had the resources to have an extensive and expensive safety concept which allowed vaccinated and non-vaccinated (well, mostly not-yet-full-vaccinated) people to be around (combined with the fact that being outdoors makes stuff so much more easy).
There will be choice.
I am writing these lines from a demoscene meeting where people with strong opinions on this subject are simply trying to make it as safe as possible for everyone, including those not yet fully vaccinated, without anyone using a hammer.

The debate was about whether medical-segregation, or segregation of any kind is acceptable.

In Germany there has already been talk of "quarantine camps" for "repeat offenders" so how far off are we really? As I've said before, the Nazi's didn't start gassing the Jews over night, there was a long drawn out process which took over a decade. Starting with; demonisation and segregation. So as far as I'm concerned the comparison is justified, even if it makes people uncomfortable.
Would it have been okay if I had used Muslims or Christians instead? That just seems like a chicken shit move to me, considering we all know Germany's history. And believe me, I know the Dutch were just as guilty.
And to add to that, if you know anything about human history you would know that we are a bunch of genocidal maniacs. You can pretend like we somehow 'got over that', but then you are just living in fantasy land.
Your thought need to make one hell of a split to compare religion or even the fricken shoa and a vaccination status regarding segregation.
If you really can't see that this comparison is ridicolously stupid, you are beyond help. It's like arguing that people fucking animals and being vocal about it getting shunned; of course they will be. Is that comparable to a vaccination? No, not exactly.
But it's still a lot more comparable than the utter nonsense you're talking about.
You basically added, since we're a "bunch of genocidal maniacs" and added that to your narrative, that this very vaccine is there to actually commit a mass murder. So sorry if i don't think you are a "skeptic", but rather a conspiracy nut.
(Good thing i already have that DNA-changing genocide juice inside me. If it really changes the DNA, that means i have even less in common with you. Yeehaw.)

This exchange is heated and complex enough as is. Nobody reasonably should expect a demoparty organizer willing to get scene events running again to be able to unite people with positions as extreme as shown here by some.
@bitch
If the difference between segregating the unvaccinated with segregating any other group is so obvious, surely you can explain it to me with our resorting to personal attacks?
And where do I ever say the vaccines are there to commit mass murder? I don't know if this is the case, but it's certainly a possibility. To pretend it's not is, again, living in fantasy land.

Gabbie, all I'm suggesting is that you do not ask such questions if you do not want to be associated with nazism.

Only if you take the quote out of context can you associate me with nazism, and if that's what you want to do, knock yourself out.
@Gargaj
If you would read, nowhere do I say that the vaccines are there to commit mass murder, merely that it's a possibility. In my opinion you are just naive if you think the possibility is zero, especially considering people have been talking about the "overpopulation problem" for decades. Mass murder is probably very unlikely because of the insane chaos it would create, screwing with the reproductive system would be the much "cleaner" way to go.
Two words: Occam's razor.

Occam's razor would suggest that greed and power are the main driving force behind this, but that could still inadvertently lead to many deaths even if it's not the goal. That being said, the massive propaganda campaign to get everyone vaccinated seems to go above and beyond just greed and power, which is what has me worried that there might be more going on. Time will tell.
I like how he actually thinks he's the smart dude in the room for pointing out that possibility.
Guess what, brains-for-breakfast: Arguing like this is not very smart. Calling event a possible mass murder is about as reasonable as calling someone a murderer, until disproven.
This, however, is not how things work.
I could call you a active pedophile now.
I don't know if this is the case, but it's certainly a possiblity. To pretend it's not is, again, living in a fantasy land. There are so many pedophiles around, especially in europe. So i think it's ok to call myself a skeptic in that matter, since i can not disprove that you are not a pedophile.
"I am very smart."

Sorry Gabbie, I associate that question with nazism regardless of context, potential hypotheticalness, or anything else really. And that's exactly what you wanted me to do when you wrote that sentence. Or are you going to claim you "accidentally" asked me about banning specifically Jews from your hypothetical establishment in Germany?
Quote:

That's because it is associated with Nazism and I purposefully chose that example because of Germany's, not so distant, history. If the party was in the USA I would have asked whether it's okay to open up a restaurant and not allow any Blacks, simply because of the historical context. And it's amazing to me how people on one hand can be outraged by a question like that, and on the other hand be cheerleaders for a different kind of segregation.
Can we please auto-close threads that have words like "nazi" "vaccine" "mass-murder" and "pedophile" too close to each other?
I will leave this with a quote by Hannah Arendt, from The Origins of Totalitarianism:
Have a great future everyone.
Quote:
Terror can rule absolutely only over men who are isolated against each other… Therefore, one of the primary concerns of all tyrannical government is to bring this isolation about. Isolation may be the beginning of terror; it certainly is its most fertile ground; it always is its result. This isolation is, as it were, pretotalitarian; its hallmark is impotence insofar as power always comes from men acting together…; isolated men are powerless by definition.
Have a great future everyone.
maali, you can either shit in the woods or build your own toilet

Thank you for confirming that I was absolutely correct when I associated your question with nazism.
Nosfe: I'd join. Not the toilet, but the party. Especially if heatwaves and fires by then have killed the damn mosquitos.
