What does Demosceners thinking about NFT?

Cryptocurrencies are the ultimate capitalistic commodity. Buy nothing, get nothing back.
NFT is more of that, but you actually buy the illusion that you own something.
I thought people that sold their games, nay, their demotools with hardware based DRM would be happy to use NFTs :/
Who sells demotools?
Mudlord and his long standing... whatever-this-is against Notch - which is a commercial product, and not more of a demotool than Unity is.
lol
the lol is directed at calling notch a demotool
also, i haven't heard about nfts in a while, so I assume the fad is over / it has collapsed.
good imo.
good imo.
I have nothing to do with NFTs or demotools. I can barely raymarch a sphere without artifacts.

Of course, anyone with a good internet connection and a little know-how can download the YouTube video for themselves, but only the NFT auction winner will have the certificate of authenticity to the original video.
This is the real deal, you can't prove Charlie bit your finger!

You can't if the link goes down.
It does nothing to me.
It gets worse:

Yep, one of the biggest auction houses in the world now sells worthless receipts for fucking copies of artworks the original author never planned to be sold, for $10k plus.

To make it worse, they're not even the original "copies" of the 320x200 IFF files, but whatever scaled up abomination they created.
Wow, that is impressively lame.
On the bright side, that means that the originals are not "owned" by some (quoting Subi) cryptocurrency-obsessed arsehole!
Yeah, old auction houses don't get how early digital art works. Or how "authentic" digital content works, in general. To be an "original", it would have to be either the floppy disk it was saved on, write-protected, or the Amiga 1000 and monitor on which it was created.. and good luck with that.
“Notch isnt a demotool”
Doesn’t that depend on whether people make demos with it? Why do people care so much about the tools other people use? Speaking as a non-coder making stuff in Notch, I’m just happy to A) be able to make something that I couldnt otherwise, B) learn something in the process, C) have fun

That wasn't my argument. My argument was that it's a commercial product and as such the copy protection methods on it are expected to be such.
Sure yeah. I Didnt mean it as a reply to your post exactly, more of a general comment about the demotool discussions that crop up now and again

Right.
Hardware DRM such as USB dongles are expected???
You have to be kidding me.
Sure, VMProtect 3 would be fine.
And the equivalent for video games (Denuvo) is pretty much a given and people learnt to tolerate that just fine.
But no....Why not add an extra USB hardware device? Why Wibu Codemeter of all choices?
Point I'm saying: Having such kernel level DRM on your product shows a severe lack of confidence.

If some greedy people want to nuke the planet by cozying up to the whims of Elon F*ck and co, let them.
Thats my stance on NFTs: people can do it but its not my cup of tea.
For such amounts of money I'd rather contact an artist directly and commission a piece for myself with the artist signing off their rights to me. Not only would this be cheaper and better for the environment but I'd also really have something worth in return be it copyright, exclusive use or what-else is decided in the contract.
