scene music stolen

category: music [glöplog]
Note to artists on the list: You should contact DistroKid to get the album banned. People who are not copyright holders of the affected work sadly cannot do it.
I accidentally found this:
A Himitsu - Easier To Fade feat. Madi Larson (2015)

... being strongly suggestive to this:
TBL - Ocean Machine Soundtrack (2005)

remix? coincidence?

Good luck contacting Distrokid for anything, from my experience they won't respond to emails. Might be lucky if you address copyright issues directly on their twitter feed, for all to see.

heh, that's a coincidence, but a damning one at it! :)

yeah, there's a whole genre of music (smth chill smth) that all sounds pretty similar like the ocean machine soundtrack... e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3cYWrzQbkY, it just lacks the mustard!
yeah, it's like nu-beats, or future r&b or, slow dub, or other weird names, but it's been going on for a while. James Blake, Nicolas Jaar, Flume and such have pushed it.

this great Bill Withers remix is a great example as well.

This thread is now about that kind of music that was hip like a decade ago

Chet Faker - No Diggity

And let's not forget Krampfhaft from Utrecht, whose record DJ Shadow was playing when he was told his set was 'too future' for the crowd in 2013!

SO fucking good!

We have a new case of someone relabelling old (and not-so-old) modules as their own work and publishing it through an online distributor. This is the first time I'm affected by this personally (my winner track from Evoke 2011 tiny music compo), and I have already contacted the music distributor (who is luckily located in Germany).

the offending album

Cloud Number Seven: Cloud Numer 5 by Saga Musix
Bass Beats & Sunlight: Blue Particles by Dustbin
Crystal Star - Crystalstar by Sway & Spike

Can you identify any of the other tracks? Quite obviously most of them are old modules from the late 90s.
oh, sa mowar... again!
@saga: Artwork can be found here (https://afremov.com/de/alley-by-the-lake-palette-knife-oil-painting-on-canvas-by-leonid-afremov-size-24-x30.html) - unclear whether or not this was used with permission.

Flashy: Pretty sure it's a different person this time.
'walking and talking' is oso - by night
'carefree life' is duster - carefree
What a nice case of lamoring, is there *anything* original with the album?

No, even the album title is stolen from Nick Straker Band!

Thanks for finding those, Flashy.
How do you find these? Well in this case some of the song titles are strikingly similar but apart from that, do you scan through every new release that gets thrown out there?

Makes me wonder how many stolen tracks exist that none have spotted yet? Frightening thought indeed :/

SunSpire: in this case it was a helpful comment from another person uploading modules to YouTube and getting a copyright claim on my track. While I'm not a fan of putting modules on YouTube, it helps uncovering this kind of shit thanks to content ID.
DMCA actually doing some good for once. Very sad that there's more than 130 pages of this. Shameful.

Hey Dustbin. First off, great track, it's been among my favourites for a long time. :) So I recognized it instantly.
Can you drop me a mail? Then I can let you know what I have done so far with regards to contacting the distributor of those files, Feiyr.
