ACE was already taken in the pinball highscores in the arcade we went to.

Always had collisions with my first two irc nicks Rufus (based on my surname) and Usul (private Fremen name of Paul Atreides in Dune). Decided in '94 i need something unique and simply combined them. Used this nick also in #coders.ger and decided then to use it for my first scene release.

It wasn't even from Optimus Prime, but from my obsession about the concept of code optimization I read in a magazine back then (they were lamenting everything required 486s and Pentiums while they stayed faithful to their 386s). Pretty common, I should have picked something more unique.

Was apparently my favorite book when I was young, got a nickname from that, and that got Internetified to the current spelling.

Mine comes from Gong's "Radio Gnome Invisible" trilogy. I was (and still am) a fan of European progressive rock 70's scene.
Charger / Midnight Sun (his name came from the car) said I was a legend because I was the only one who could twist quite large and thick bar of lead. I did it accidentally while waiting him to finish his DPaint session... then I thought why not, its arrogant enough too haha.

Name got shortened a few years later, but I was too pretentious to be happy with "Subby". :)

I was first known as diper, but connections to diaper were too strong so through deDipr, and dpr it evolved smoothly into deepr.

In my defense, I was 15. I pondered changing it on scene comeback in 2017, but it was too much effort.

Nothing complicated, really. I started out in 2009 on Nectarine with just "AMcBain" (first + last name) like most other sites where username = display name. It was unique, but as with most else online people first assume I'm making a The Simpsons reference. (Nope, just my name.)

Noticing that almost nobody went by their own names there and here, and wanting to "fit in" better (which is a bit silly to think in retrospect, it's not like I hadn't before), I decided to change it in 2014. First thought was "Stargazer" after what I'd called my laptop.

Unfortunately a quick search of Pouet revealed at least two Stargazers, and several other variants I tried always came up with hits. Finally I settled on Starchaser, which afaik, has no existing concurrent uses. :)

It took a bit to work myself up to actually effecting the change because in some way changing your online name is remotely similar to changing your real one and did I want to go through with that...

Several people objected to the change, and wished I'd go back, including one person who forcibly changed my username back on their site for about 5 minutes as a joke (they thought so) during a demoparty, but in the end it's not really their choice. :)

I still haven't produced any good demos under either name, but maybe I'll get there...

Emod is an ancient nordic name, invented around 1987 when playing scrabble with somewhat custom rules. My opponent wrote "anti-negro-farts" , that was counterattacked with "Emod" five times in a row. A nose punch and the physical destruction of the board game itself prevented any winner to emerge.
