Insteed of the official results for EIL2 I should've linked to the extended results. Please fix it for me. :)

oh wait, you already did. thx!

ps: OK, I have to agree with you, there are many ORGAs that don't care what happens with the partyreleases after the party :(

I just don't see the point in maintaining on pouet if no one else does it, it would just result that no one thinks that our particular party has correct info.

Ah well... At least I can stick with having my own ftp / web :-D

the glopwhores care. ^^

would it be possible th have some changes log that shows a party organizer the changes recently made at his party on pouet? I think just looking at all additions made without doing anything about the right ones would be easier and less work than verifying just anything ever added.
and btw, psychad: if you know of actual cases in which people added a prod to the wrong party this very thread might be able to fix that :)

uhm... i've seen way worse things in wikis than the recent changes :)
has been just some random idea anyway

it'ld be cool to add "sort by awards (total got, total nomines)" in the search prod engine
added on the 2005-02-16 23:14:45 by skarab skarab
i'd like "sort by personal coup de coeur" as well
hmm, maybe I better stfu now...

ps: sorry (and i guess you wanna shoot me now) but i thought pouet was a wiki ... at least when it comes to the productions.

Well one marvelous example is http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=2188

How do you manage to date a production to released in May 1997 for a party that was in August 1997 ? It is things like this that made me to never trust pouet.

request: change http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=2188 release date to august 97. thanks in advance.

Just add it yourself if it isn't already there. Problems that often occour:
  • There aren't proper download loacations.
  • The resultsfile sucks big times. (Believe me, I've seen many of them in the last months.)
  • For some strange reason Orgas decide to write important information in their local language only.
  • Afterparty stuff keeps only online until the next partywebsite launches.
  • ...

Well, everytime I cross a party page at poeut which needs some work, I try to do it, when I have the time. But when the stuff isn't on scene.org (which I for myself see as a good source since I've seen to many dead links on other servers) I don't invest that much time to search on other possible locations. The "power" of scene.org is the fact that you can find nearly every party there. Why should I search on hundreds of other servers, which (w|c)ould change their directories within months or one or two years?

Quote:
I think pouet is the best place ever to backdate new productions.
Either I misunderstood you, or you misunderstood the system of pouet. When a user notices a wrong information, he/she can give us the info, we'll change it accodring to the information, we have/get from the net. Sooner or later someone points out that (for example) there are 3 names for one party and someone will join all information into 1 party entry. [1]

Quote:
And it still means that 2 years after the party someone can add something more (or backdate something)
And where's the problem? Mizc did that some days ago for some Dialogos and Mekkas. I think it's good because it reflects the party on a wider range.

Quote:
Maybe it is even more practical that submissions to the party can't be made until I verify them.
After waiting several months for analogue to change some simple dl-links (which wasn't done due to less time) I know that this system woulnd't work as good as the system we now have.

Quote:
One should start to take in account that some parties don't hold annually, some skip a year, some hold two the same year and label the both parties with different names.
The only problems I can see are two or more parties in one year and the namechange of a party. Example one, Simulaatio was held 2 times in 2003, for a proper seperating I've added a second party. I don't like that solution, but _for the moment_ it's the best. Example 2: Mekka&Symposium with it's predecessors Mekka and Symposium (and Symposiums predecessors) and its successor Breakpoint. I'd like to see some timeline like Assembly, The Gathering or The Party have, at the moment it's not possible, but I'm sure ps will improve that sooner or later, too.

[1]: To give you a real example to show you that I know about what I'm writing here:
When coming over Crystal Dream 2 again, I've noticed it was the only prod of that party, no information was given. Some days or weeks later I came across another party, added some stuff, found a lousy results file, saw CD2 again and added it, did some searches (on pouet) for other prods of that party and added the missing information and so on. There were at least 3 party names ([[urlhttp://www.pouet.net/search.php?what=tcc&type=party]1[/url]], [2]) for that party, scene.org had 2 directories and not really a good resutls file, ... I even managed to get the Atari invitation and winner demo (which I found on the old dirlist from a former BBS and requested by mail). If you now look at The Computer Crossroad 93 you'll get at least a good impression from that party. Believe me, people care about some stuff. That was a swedish party, I'm german and back than I was 11. I don't see a need to lock changes.

If that's not enough, I've added at least 50% of that cute [slengpung], [csdb], [zxdemo], [prods], [results] links on the party overview. I wouldn't do it, when all that stuff would be locked until someone took the same amount of time for a re-check. And as you see, I.. we are not ready yet. Feel free to add some information by yourself.
Wow, only one broken bb-code. \o/

mizc: Party orgas... most don't care that much. If they do, they can check it by hand or save some html pages from time to time. Often the groups care more about their own stuff than the organizers from the parties where it was released. I mean, TP organizers don't seem to care about the name they've build up any more, otherwise I don't know how it came that some new orgas could announce TP2004 and ... you know. The website had much delays and not even the cancel-msg is translated into english nor is there any comment why it was canceled. I don't believe these people will come and say "Oh, the 35ths place from the demo compo is wrong, it was officially released one month later and got 34ths." I think you know what I mean. ;)

Skarab: Just go to http://awards.scene.org/, there you'll have the list. Or was that request for checking out whether a group is overrated or not? (I just could not resist.)

mizc again: "sort by personal coup de coeu" WTF?! Ok, ps is your man, ask him nicely. :)

Psychad/mizc: Changed, but sometimes it happens that a prod leaks, is released months after the party, gets rereleased,... I assume you got my point.
Quote:
Mizc did that some days ago for some Dialogos and Mekkas
hmm, i figuered he complained about people adding wrong date infos for a prod. when I newly added old productions for a party I always made sure it was "backdated" to the right date the party took place at. And I don't see the problem with that..
added on the 2005-02-17 01:27:54 by mizc mizc
hmm, ok well I understand your point of view.

I myself am a sorting freak, I think that information should be exact. I maintain my own ftpserver for my party (deadline) and it's releases because scene.org repacks the archives, re-organizes and renames the compos. Of course I can contact them every now and then but just having my own archive is much easier. Some parties are still sain enough to have their own archives as a good starting point.

What happens if I someday don't care about the scene but others care about the legacy... Well you point of view is kind of good, I guess. But why not go to the partyhomepage first to see where they say you should get the releases.

I will consider how I will spread the releases from "deadline 2007" (deadline 4, being held 15-17 April 2005 - you are all so very very welcome! :)). Of course they will go up on our regular and stable ftp, probably scene.org make a copy of it, but after that I usually don't care, I shall see what I'll do in the future. I'm already considering HARD to force every single release to have the file_id.diz file in good old PCB-format :)

ps/madenmann: ok, i'd like to see how it is solved with parties that are not held once a year every year.

MadenMann: could you *please* stop bashing tp?
that party is dead anyway...
added on the 2005-02-17 01:30:35 by mizc mizc
with the sentence "but after that I usually don't care" i mean that i never bother what happens on other archives cause i already know it is in two good archives...

psychad, madenmann: the partyaka idea is already on the todo list. im just out of time to implement it. would be cool if analogue did some .php updating more often but it seems he's always quite busy with i have no clue what. -_-
added on the 2005-02-17 01:48:24 by psenough psenough
mizc: Well, TP was easier to mention than Mekka "longest demo compo ever" Symposium 2002. :)
And when it comes to bashing I just want to say that I've stopped bashing another (big) party (which I don't want to name here) some time ago, because it changed to the better. I even asked gloom for the archive, so I could fix something here and add the missing stuff to scene.org.

Oh and, oops. :)
ps: buzzie (boozie) suggested to me today that I should write a prorgam that masssubmits everything in one swoop. Is that possible? I really hate pressing a lot of mouseclicks :)

mizc, madenman: cdc.php already exists, im planning extending it to give info about sceneorgrecommendations table (awards winners, nominees, viewing tips, and a few other categories that im thinking of adding..) but i require free time for that.
added on the 2005-02-17 01:53:10 by psenough psenough
psychad: hmm... if you have own database with all info required you could always code some sort of converter to output insert's matching our database fields. but is it worth the bother? plus you would have to enter screenshots and infofiles manually.. or do some sort of pearl script o handle filling out submitprod.php ....

if its doable? yes.
if its worth the bother? if you got too much free time.
if its gonna piss off some glopwhores and prod authors? hell yeh, i'd watch my back for flamethrowers if i was you. ;)

ps: thanks for the link....
anyway, time that i gain a second coup de coeur...
don't hesitate oj that - if I ever asked something I did that on the basis that someone would have time to do it
