I think it would be easyer to invent a new scripting engine, than to reverse engineer monkey island... but thats still not easy. The main problem is rather this than codings/gfx, etc. The converts are ok, but nothing mindblowing, a c64 gfxman can do those pix 10 times as nice.

Those conversions keep the original aspect of the game. Who cares if someone else could pixel them better? They look very nice I think.

I did not play Monkey Island so I don't realize the size of the project.

Anyway if a c64 gfxman could make greater justice to the game and the real potential of the C64 than some automated conversions, why passing by ?

Slummy: who said it should be better? It should be on C64 for the same reason Maniac Mansion is on it and besides I think Amiga is really crap. I mean. Videogames on C64 were really something... on Amiga I always had the feeling that they were not as good as they could have been. That's why I played a lot on C64 and never on Amiga. On C64 I had this "oh look what astonishing graphics, theyare really good" sensation. On Amiga: "what crap! They have the resources to do better and they just don't!"....

Want a simple example?

Look at this screen from C64 version of Led Storm:

Monkey Island on Amiga could have been better... instead they just ported the PC screens and did not use all the resources.

no flaming. I am just saying that I played games on c64 and only watched demos and intros on Amiga... I really played only 4 or 5 games on Amiga

I mean just look at Rez on the Dreamcast and PS2:

this started out interesting, but it seems to have devolved into an argument... i think porting a newer scumm engine based on info from scummvm might actually work better than trying to convert monkey island to the maniac mansion version of scumm.
