in this "strong maybe" planning phase i'm doing calculations getting there and back by plane from Budapest, HU, also, taking an AirBNB nearby. hope i'll manage, wish me luck as there are many other factors as well.

Are Amiga OCS 4k intros allowed in the oldskool 4k intro compo, like in previous years, or are they confined to the Amiga intro compo?
added on the 2019-02-17 20:23:41 by Blueberry Blueberry
I hope they are allowed as long as they run on A500 or A600.
added on the 2019-02-17 20:49:34 by ham ham
Yes, those are the ones I mean. Those that adhere to the letter of the oldskool compo rules.

I personally feel that Amiga demos/intros should go into the Amiga compos regardless of target chipset. The oldschool/wild compos get crowded enough as is.

I'm pretty sure they used to be allowed anywhere, but that they changed that to "Amiga entries go into the Amiga compos" a few years ago -- correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, and DOS-prods should go into the PC-compo regardless of CPU used.

I guess OCS 4ks are in a somewhat unique situation here because:

1. There's no dedicated Amiga 4k compo (while there *is* a dedicated demo compo, which was the main reason for disallowing OCS in the "general" oldschool democompo).
2. The oldschool 4k compo allows other systems with comparable specs (Atari ST, Megadrive).

As for the other Amiga-related "where does this go"-stuff (i.e. "all true amiga demos go in the amiga demo compo" and "PPCs, Vampires and the like goes in wild") I fully concur with the current rules. :)
With the disclaimer that I'm not the final authority on the Amiga compos, I'll point out that we never technically disallowed OCS demos in the oldskool compos, and I believe it's within the spirit and letter of the rules for Amiga OCS 4Ks to go into the oldskool 4K compo.

Here's what the "New and noteworthy" section of the rules said in 2016:

Quote:
All Amiga intro/demo entries (This means OCS, ECS and AGA chipsets) take part in the dedicated Amiga compos. Should you *REALLY* want to compete against other platforms, you can request your Amiga entries to take part in the Oldschool competitions. If you need further clarification on this rule, please contact the Amiga Compo Organizers.
As a result OCS/ECS intros may now also be 64KB in size as they will go into Amiga Intro instead of Oldskool 4K Intro.

This not-so-gentle recommendation was intended to avoid the situation we had in 2015, when the surprise OCS demo renaissance happened, and we ended up with entries split between the Amiga and oldskool compos. In the case of 4K intros, there's a compelling reason for authors to want to compete against 4Ks on comparable platforms, rather than a mixture of 64Ks and 4Ks on the Amiga, and I don't believe the compo team would stand in the way of that. :-)

4K Exe GFX Returns!

We have had quite a lot of feedback on removing the 4K Executable Graphics compo from this years line-up, in fact we have had more comments that said "we will make a release!" than we have had entries last year and the year before.

So here's your chance. Get your shaderskills activated and crunch out those entries for the 4K Executable Graphics compo. Prove us wrong when we removed it and put together a kickass competition.

The compo rules have not changed from 2018 so that entry 'you though was not good enough' is waiting for you to polish it and submit it at Revision 2019.

The ticket and t-shirt pre-sale has started!

Like always it’s not a requirement to get your ticket in advance, but we appreciate if you do so. And isn’t it nice to get already hyped by printing out your ticket? :)

we can scan the Revision Ticket Barcodes from your mobile device screen at the infodeskt too

I agree that it was a mess to have Amiga demos spread across two compos. It is actually sort of the same situation that I wanted to avoid with my question:

Probably, I'll personally have some slight preference for the Oldskool 4K Intro compo (competing against intros of the same size running on reasonably comparable specs, rather than 16x bigger intros running on a 100x faster CPU). But much more importantly, I would very strongly prefer to see all OCS 4k intros (should there be several) in the same compo.

So I am looking for some sort of guideline for which compo would be most appropriate. As I understand the sentiment of most (though not all) of the people participating in the discussion here, they would fit into Oldskool 4K Intro.

One way to achieve unity could be to look for entries submitted to the Amiga Intro which would fit into Oldskool 4K Intro and encourage the submitters to enter it into Oldskool 4K Intro instead. This is possible since the deadline for Oldskool 4K Intro is 18 hours after the deadline for Amiga Intro. :)

OK. As last year I went and did not present anything (my bad!), I intend to correct this now and I've already two prods in progress. So, let's say this year I'll present an OCS 4K intro and also an AGA 64K intro. Rest assured that I will not present both in the same compo! See what you have done? You have been warned! ;)

So I'm in the middle of figuring out logistics as part of my decision process.

1. Am I understanding it correctly, that there will be shuttles that go to all the listed hotels (and only those)? If yes, what are the times? I might end up in a different hotel, but I could just pick a nearby hotel that is listed officially and then walk the extra .5 km myself, right?

2. Is the timetable finished yet? I don't see any music events yet. The reason why I'm asking that is because I need to figure out when I'll be at the hotel and to reserve enough time for Revision<->Hotel transport time.

Example: Friday->Saturday is the first night, but one of the compos I want to try to participate in is the tracked music compo, which is very early at Saturday 12:00. Even worse is Saturday->Sunday, where there are compos at 23:00 and possibly an (unlisted?) music event after that, with a whole compo block beginning next day at 12:00.

There's theoretically enough time to sleep, sure, but this really makes me start worrying about the fact that there will be no public transportation and there is next to no information about the shuttle service.

@PotcFdk:
i doubt that this years shuttle tour is already available, but i can show you the one from 2018:

and yeah, picking a hotel near to one on the tour is fine!
