My favourite book is "Goedel - Escher - Bach" by Douglas R. Hofstadter. And how about you?

That's a good one. I still like "Candide" by Voltaire better than anything else tho. I still have to finish "Cryptonomicon", which I started about 3 years ago... it's a good one, but requires dedication.

Cryptonomicon is quite okay. I like The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick (then again, I like a lot from that guy), the obviously awesome Lord of the Rings springs to mind.

I really love the gunslinger books by Stephen King, a lot better than his usual shit.

"il principe" By N. Machiavelli
"Also Sprach Zarathustra" by F. Nietzsche
"Das Kapital" by K. Marx

Oh - and GEB is bloated! Why read hundreds of pages about an insight that could be gained on less than 20?

I like books about the Warhammer world because I'm a whore.

And then there's Walter Moers book, originally called "Die 13½ Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär", or "Kaptajn Blåbjørns 13½ liv2" in danish, or something like "Captain Bluebears 13½ lives" in english.

And... Harry Potter! (why didn't anyone mention Harry Potter before?)
Maybe I should get my eyes checked.

I thought it said boobs.
Against the Fall of Night, by Arthur C. Clarke

Last good books I've read: (during those past 30 days)

- Finished the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson ("Quicksilver", "The Confusion" -- my prefered one -- and "The System Of the World")
- Of course Douglas Adams' "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
- Haruki Murakami's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End Of The World" which is totally excellent, and "A Wild Sheep Chase"
- Just today, "Jimmy Corrigan The Smartest Kid On Earth." by Chris Ware.

And I found GEB a bit disappointing considering the hype that surrounded it, but it's a good book nevertheless. But I preferred the theme approached in Douglas Hofstaedter's more personal book: "Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies"
