RIP DDT/Accession

category: general [glöplog]
RIP :( You will be missed. I keep fond memories of asm06 when you were driving/racing us (i believe Truck, Dixan, perhaps some others too) around and doing that impromptu BBQ with your wife on the beach. I will definitely miss the random hockey 'maali'-song you'd sing/shout at me whenever you saw me, i guess i'll just mumble 'taas me tehtiin maali' to myself next times in your honor!
That was a fun night. I was with my schoolmates. They were taking selfies, and DDT told them they need a selfiestick. They agreed, "but where will we get one now?". DDT said "one moment", went to his car, took out a brand new selfiestick still in it's box. He even had an iZettle, so the selfiestick was charged from the studentsociety credit card, receipt and all. Selfies looked awesome after that, and DDT was praised as a hero of the night.

Bye Lennu and thanks for all the good moments!

The last time was before X-mas when I quit boring company xmas party and joined you and some other guys in the 8 Bit Brewery and we had some great fun in the Helsinki nightlife.

Too many good memories.. here is one photo of Lennu I took at the Bzm 2006:

I remember "meeting" him the first time at Breakpoint 2007 (I think), late at night, he put me in a headlock with my face aimed at his new tattoo and just shouted "AAAAAAAMIIIIIIIGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

I'm gonna miss that dude <3 RIP

You went too early. I did not know you well from the very beginning but I was privileged to get know you better on your last years. For me you were easy to approach you and chat for like anything. Your stories were interesting and at the Saunasolmu 2018 party we talked last time you were talking about writing a book of the crackerscenes early days. Well you took your stories with you now. I remember you as a gently giant with a very big heart. You will be missed. My thoughts are now with your family. Rest in peace and fuckings to lamers. Amigaaah!

Suckho: Awesome photo, had forgotten about that :D I'd say the expressions on the faces of sceners in that shot (myself included) say it all. Hard to imagine a party, especially a Finnish one, without The Man.

Had the pleasure to know him for 30 years and we met several times a year, we shared the same passion for .. console related internet back ups. Or he just wanted to spend some time and drive the Yaris for a coffee.

I will miss you my friend.. someone here said he was hard to get on with or hard to approach. I myself never experienced such, a lovely fella from day one and we always enjoyed each others company, and respected each. He always called me Huulio, and only loved ones says that. You were truly a loved one, fucking love you man.

We often times joked about who would go first.. now we sadly know. I will meet you there, at some time. Keep the Amiga running.
RIP and thanks for all the good times.

The type of guy you are a bit scared of when you first meet him but then grows on you and finally becomes a part of the descicion to visit a party again.

Miss him and been thinking of him throughout the day. RIP

First time I met him was at Assembly'93 where he was working as a security guy. Back then it was a thing to get a water gun to a party and spray water on lamers computers. As DDT was security, he confiscated some water guns and then started to use them himself. Another thing I remember from asm'93 is that he was at the door checking for visitor badges and suddely when some guy walked in he yelled and lifted the guy up on the wall and said to the panicking guy "buy the merchandise" RIP

Such a legend!

First time I ever heard about DDT was after the 1995 (or 1996?) Assembly when my friend got back from that party. Before the party, he had just bought the latest and greatest PC with Intel pentium processor (such power!). During Saturday night, while my friend was sleeping, DDT arrived to the party table and said the legendary words ”onks tää pentium??”, after few nods he just grabbed the computer and started running with it... loppu on legendaa!

Althought, kinda horrible first impression, we later connected dots and laughted to that event multiple times and had such a great time during tens of other parties.

RIP DDT

RIP DDT / Accession

Think I was introduced to you personally by Truck but sadly didn't get to hang out that often with you. Rest in Peace mate wherever you are, take care and we'll see you on the other side.

Felice.

I woke up to this terrible news this morning, and it stills feels a bit unreal, even though I knew he had health issues for a while.

Lennu was always great to me. He welcomed me to Accession when I was asked to join, we shared beers, great chats about cracktros, and he was a straight up legend in the scene. I will never forget him.

I was very sad to hear this. I have fond memories of Demoparty DDT (from BZM and Breakpoint, most of which have been referred to here by others) but also of Sober DDT whom I hung out with along with truck and uncleX while on a work trip to Helsinki.

Highlights include Lennu quietly playing Eve Online or something on a laptop in a club while everyone *else* was getting drunk and singing death metal karaoke, and also him whispering something menacing to the scary Russian bouncers who seemed like they wanted to shake me down for the expensive video equipment I was carrying... I've no idea what he said, but it terrified them and they were extremely nice to me after that. Also he and truck got my drunk ass in a taxi in time to catch my ferry to Suomenlinna.

Scene's most legendary scener AND Helsinki's #1 Tour Guide - that's quite a CV! Rest in peace, fella.

Oh, I could definitely tell a few stories but not now... ci vediamo, Lennu!

Dixan I told on my facebook page I could get a small book written about him and party experiences.. add dozens of other sceners you've got a book saga.

He really did his share of entertainment, be it good or bad.. but no one can't say the man was not an entertainer. Freddie fucking Mercury of demoscene.
Reading through all these stories, they actually made me smile a bit. I haven't met another person who has the same capability to laugh at his own mockups or adventures in the IT industry and elsewhere. We had a saying, "koska Lennu" (= because Lennu), since he had notoriously bad luck with things. Behind the hellraiser reputation he had, there was a sweet and kind man who was always there to offer help his friends if he possibly could.

There are countless stories to be told about him, whenever we met we had a good time and were always friends. Some of the things are easy to comprehend probably only to Finns; He offered nice photo opportunities since he had a habit of passing out on the second day of demoparty, somewhere after noon. I remember the organizers or some responsible visitors of Breakpoint being pissed off at me because I took some photos of him passed out on the lawn. The guy said "don't do this to your friend, thats not nice, dont do it". I replied, "I'm doing it because I'm his friend and we'll have a laugh about it later on". Leave us alone, Accession members are trained professionals in drinking sports. Also, one might not have been able to go to a demoparty and seeing him showing his amiga tattoo around.

He was also a cornerstone for our Helsinki demoscener community, at least in the sense I am familiar with. Through his contacts we rented the first Skeneklubi location (demoscener club) in Helsinki. He was also always there to drive a truck when the club needed things to be moved. For Boozembly, he was one of the main organizers from the beginning and continued to be so till the end. Relentlessly hauling beer and supplies and helping out in all possible ways (including occupying chairs and yelling at people passing by).

Godspeed Lennu, thank you for all the fun moments. You'll be missed.

I first met DDT when served with the challenge to get him off a toilet drunk. I met him second when I had to organize him getting carried to the showers. A met him third when I had discussions with him that he really needs to stay a bit more sober if he wishes to re-enter Breakpoint.

To me as an organizer, he really used to be a huge PITA back then.

After a while we all got a routine in it, and finally at some point when I was not in charge carrying him around anymore (RIP Breakpoint), it turned out to me that he actually is a really nice guy.

Good bye DDT, you will be missed.

(But I am still somewhat grateful that it won't be me who has to carry him into the grave.)
