MAGFest Demoparty 2019 - 3rd to 6th January - Gaylord Resort, National Harbor (near Washington D.C.), USA
category: parties [glöplog]
We (Argasek and me) started this project two years ago with a couple of demoscene-related presentations given at MAGFest, which is a huge music and gaming festival organized annually at the location. As we had received a lot of positive feedback, we came back last year with a ShaderToy workshop and a compo (organized by Maq/Floppy). Then MAGFest orgas visited Riverwash to see how demoparties look like in Europe. Next January, we're throwing a fully-fledged demoparty during MAGFest!

Our goal is to boost US demoscene with a unique opportunity to throw a real, 24h/3d lasting demoparty, which isn't easy to do in the US. It's also purely independent as supported by MAGFest, the Polish Embassy, Demosplash orgas (who're providing us with a PC compomachine) and other kind supporters, no commercial sponsors are involved!
As our visitors have to be MAGFest participants too (same ticket), we're expecting to see outsiders rather than only sceners visit us. But we want the compos to be in true demoscene spirit. That's why we need your support! Please send us your remotes, even if you can't come. We're going to try to set up a party stream, however we know from past experience that the current Internet infrastructure at the spot is very unpredictable. Stay tuned for more info and website updates.

cool initiative :)
Tickets bought, entry started, see you in a few weeks!
The place is actually called Gaylord Resort?
Google is not ElTopo's friend?
a) Google fails at not being evil.
b) Don't want to see the hits I get for "gaylord resort", it will be hard to unsee them afterwards.

d) havoc sees gaylord resorts all the time in his browser
My boss in my last company was named Gaylord. You get used to it quite fast.
yeah, lubricants are a blessing
Just when you thought that it couldn't get any weirder:

The annual Scripps National Spelling Bee has been held at the Gaylord since 2011.
@El Topo: are you 15 or simply an idiot?
@Fei: You tell me. Good luck with the party btw.
Tickets bought, 1k entry almost complete, will hopefully complete a demo too. Am trying to get more local sceners involved.
Also, there are gay people in the demoscene, like myself. It's nothing scandalous or weird.

Some people are stuck in their teens... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaylord_(given_name), FFS.
And good luck with the party! It's pretty cool to see Poles doing demoparty export into the US.

For the what it's worth, I have never once said it was "scandalous or weird" to be gay. I was poking a bit of fun at the name of a convention center. I can't help but feel there is some overreaction here.
luckily no one has pointed out how it almost sounds like MAGAfest
nice. i'll try to at least supply something musicish =)
Kneebiter, jco, great! Fingers crossed for your entries! :)
We'll update the party website soon with PC hardware specifications.

Oh, and same to DrClaw, obviously! Also, thanks ps & Dipswitch! It's quite challenging to organize the party almost remotely, but we'll try to do our best. :)
oh yes, I'll throw an entry your way (if time permits :))
Yay okkie! <3 Sounds great, thanks!
We would like also to say a little thank you to our partners out there in US: the demoparty is presented and organized in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York and with support of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington DC. Thanks a lot!
