what to do with hates / permanent thumbdowners?

category: general [glöplog]
Everything I'd ever say about my thumbdown would be treated like "they make all it look like it's not personal, but if you look at the whole history - it definitely is." -- therefore it makes no sense to comment on that.

Also a nice finding: while all this topic appeared because it was hard for TS to tolerate my single thumbdown in some prods, what's then wrong with all those prods? Are all the thumbdowns there personal or what? What we should do with all the obvious haters therein? :)

Just tried to imagine a mental experiment: what if every person from each group that was thumbdowned by LVD would thumbdowm his or his friends' prods? As my granny told me when I was a kid: if you spit on everybody nothing happens, if everybody spits on you you'll drown.

soo, all mayhems members and alone coder prods? sounds like a ton of lolz :)

So here's a question (yay I'm all caught up) to all involved - since now the damage has been done from both ends, and we can argue infinitely about who did what and what was worse and who has more penalty points on the score card...

...so now what? Because to me it sounds like this is just mutually assured destruction if group A won't stop doing it because group B won't stop doing it, and vice versa.

@Gargaj, i don't know, maybe there's some way to forbid one's accounts to vote/comment some group's releases. idk, really.

Wouldn't that just increase the resentment?
added on the 2018-09-10 12:53:49 by Gargaj Gargaj
well, indeed it would.
but i don't know what to do else. i don't see them stop at any circumstances.

Here's an idea: how about both sides (or even one side) stops caring. There are always people who don't like you for one reason or an another, and there are always people who don't like the productions you put your soul in.

The best revenge is a life well lived.

@Preacher, in a perfect world it would be a perfect solution.
But there are some people, who would never understand this, who would never stop caring and never stop blaming you, until they got satisfied after you quit. Yes, i know it's hard to believe, but shit is really that serious.

Thing is, since we have both sides here, and at the very least this is being talked about in a relatively civilized manner (heated as it may be at the very least it didn't escalate just yet), I do think there is a possible resolution. Airing grievances is a thing.

Again, there aren't two sides, there's a plenty of "sides", every and each with his own opinion. I see no issue here. Haters gonna hate. I personally don't start any major flame anymore and I appeal to everyone for doing the same.
I give a shit who bricked ZX-Evo and I don't think it was LVD.
I think TS-Conf is a good thing and I will keep supporting it.
I reserve the right to banter Baseconf and its authors =)

IMO thumb-downs are an instrument for adding unnecessary shit to the world. Peanut gallery, besserwisser attitude, bitterness, revenge, etc. Youtube allowes turning off thumb counting. Why not Pouet? ;) I would turn off all sorts of counters for my prods. If you have something to say, say it, but screw all dumbing-down opinion modelings.

i totally agree with yzi now.
maybe years ago thumbdowns were useful, but now it's just another way to let out all the accumulated shit.

Meanwhile, would anybody tell the story behind that really MASSIVE thumbdowning the BITS prods?

I would argue a small percentage of negative votes are abuse, and the gross majority is a valid opinion - but as we established in the thread, sometimes it's hard to tell. I myself avoid it and just not comment instead, and I don't think I'm alone with that.

I guess at this point it's become a punching bag thing.

Since people are back to discussing "what can be done", I'd like to re-iterate that I do not mind having (and getting) thumb-downs, even unfair ones. This is not a significant enough annoyance for me to propose doing anything drastic about it.

I also feel that it would be massively unhelpful to treat ZX scene in some special way within the Pouet; I feel it is isolated enough as is.

However, somewhat more aggressive policing of the comment sections for ZX prods would be very helpful. The number of serious repeated offenders is low and I do not believe it would create a massive burden of moderation, because even a realistic threat of a serious action would stop most of the comment warriors. Otherwise, the state of the comments often turns visitors away and the lack of external feedback is, in my opinion, unhelpful at best or, at worst, even suffocating to the scene.

I don't disagree, but at the same time that's why I always said when you see something say something. We can't monitor every prod thread all the time, especially if it's in Cyrillic.

How about permanent piggy-givers? Those are the worst! They're always unsatisfied, but they just not have enough balls to give solid thumb-down ;)

There are valid reasons for tumb downs. Please, some prods deserve them. I say we keep them :)

Garg as the arbiter it's remiss of you to effectively say
Quote:
lol u guize are outta control

You could've/should've shut ths down pages ago. I've seen you do it to other threads for less.

I see a few courses of action available -

  1. Do nothing - it's relatievly a small minority who're guilty of the thumbsdowning and tit-for-tatting so really, it's not going to change.
  2. Go FB and remove thumbsdown and live in a happy bubble of nonegativity. Yeah, cause that works.... Honestly - you'll just end up with more of these threads.
  3. Find a Russian ZX scener you trust and handball the moderation of those groups/bbs/prods to them
  4. Incentivise thumbsup/down - for those who take this brand of fake internet point srsly make thumbsdown cost 2 glops and thumbsup 1. It won't stop people but it may make them pause & reconsider before just blindly hammering away against 1 scener.
  5. Permaban libel - lvd calling whoever it was a paedo IS FUCKING LIBEL. Allowing that to continue is not ok and as mod the ball is squarely in your court.

my probably misinformed but no less valid 2c.

Hmm, maybe the idea of thumbs costing glöps isn't so bad. Equal for up and down is fine.

I probably should've been more accurate and said

Quote:
Dis-incentivise thumbsdown
- if the stated goal is to stop users/groups downvoting one persons prods due to some perceived slight we don't really want to penalise the people thumbsupping do we?

As long as being negative costs more than being positive then the outcome should lead to a +ve outcome... should...

The answer is not to change the system and the mechanisms. The answer is to change yourself and your behaviour. Start now. You won't regret it.

And tell your friends that you've stopped cursing at people on the street, polluting nature and giving Pouet thumb-downs. It's not mandatory and you don't need a machine or mechanism to force you into it. Better life for everybody. Start now.
