Shader Showdown European Qualification Tour 2018

category: parties [glöplog]
Last weekend in Willemsoord, The Netherlands, the first official Shader Showdown outside Revision took place. Four contestants battled on stage for the Outline Shader Showdown championship. First time competitor lsdlive won the tournament by beating fellow debutant TropicalTrevor in the first semifinal and Revision runner-up Flopine in the final, after she beat former champion LJ in her first match. Video recordings of this event will be made available soon, for the time being we'd like to congratulate lsdlive with his victory!

The next Shader Showdown Qualification Tournaments will take place at Nova demoparty on June 22-24 in Budleigh Salterton, UK, and at Nordlicht demoparty on July 20-22 in Bremen, Germany. Coders who'd like to participate are hereby invited to sign up for these tournaments by mailing to havoc@outlinedemoparty.nl

Further Shader Showdown events at other European parties will be announced via this thread and directly to the coders via our mailinglist. If you are a demoparty organizer and would like to invite the Shader Showdown team with their equipment to host a tournament at your event, please get in touch via the address mentioned above.

So is this the only way to be in the Revision compo, then?

No, these qualification tournaments are geographically limited by the distance I can travel in 1 or 2 days from my home in the Netherlands, whereas Revision obviously has visitors and competitors from all over the planet. So in the Revision tournament some spots will be reserved for contestants who are unable to participate in the qualification tournaments for practical reasons. Essentially the idea is that instead of qualifying at another party like the majority of contestants, they'd have to qualify upon arrival in Saarbrucken.

For anyone else who thinks he/she's cool: there are seats left in the Shader Superfights Grand Prix alternates, Hardy is the first in to knock me out before it starts.

Screw parties, our final will be on a cruise to Oslo.

what ps said!

superplek: just remember i just do the same old abstract-tunnel-with-generic-raymarching stuff all the time! ;) Practice with Bonzomatic, just one or two 25min-sessions a day and you will be able to win (agaist me or anyone else, also the whole thing!), simply depends on what you come up with while practicing! ;)
I for myself got a lot better in fast-typing already and also made progress on what to code first, so my screen doesn´t stay blank (or show the standard-plasma) for too long in the beginning! Practicing helps and is a lot of fun i can tell you! :)

I just set a personal record btw: i was done with the best shader i ever did...with almost 8 minutes left! and this one has a lot of code inside! ;) Can´t wait now to get into real action...considering Nordlicht right now! But my hopes are still up that Evoke will have a ShaderSuperfight aswell!
Well first you have to get past ReJ, me or better to earn a place in the quarters :)

But it's obviously a more interesting competition than this standard showdown bullshit wher enobody has taste nor a texture budget.

Are these Videos still in the making? Or did sth go wrong? I am eagerly waiting to see them! ;) (searching youtube several times a day!)
I know i should have visited Outline, but i really couldn´t afford it! :/
Gabbie/Poo-Brain is working on the video material indeed, he told me he expects to finish that job soon :)

Gabbie, please finally upload them, still want to see what the first round had to offer! ;)
How about the shaders themselves?

Round 2 has some video-footage btw, took place at Nova Demoparty last week:

Nova - Shader Showdown Round 1
(i think this misses the last 5 mins somehow)

I saw the final live then, but can´t find the video on youtube?!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2saD44omjU is the final. yx has the semi finals on his channel as well, but the net went down at the end of the semi finals so the last five minutes is gone there too. don't know if it got locally recorded.
I've also adapted my two shaders for shadertoy (just swapping out uniform names, all bugs are preserved) and put them up here. It'd be nice to see a more official release of everyone's shaders though.

I’ll get my shaders (or a rough approximation) on shadertoy soon too. Been busy doing a final of my demo. Havoc, are the shaders saved?

SHADER SHOWDOWN @ EVOKE 2018

We're proud to announce that the 4th tournament of the Shader Showdown European Tour will take place later this summer at Evoke demoparty in Cologne, Germany. Four competitors will be invited to compete in Evoke's cozy bar area for a live 1-on-1 shadercoding tournament. At Evoke and unlike previous Showdowns, all the battles in the tournament will be fought in a single session on Friday evening, August 17th, 2018. If you'd like to volunteer for this competition, please send a mail to havoc@outlinedemoparty and we'll add you to the list from which the Evoke orgas will select 4 coders who shall be invited to compete in Cologne.

Please note that in a little less than 3 weeks from now, there's also a tournament at Nordlicht party in Bremen, and some spots for this tournament are still available!
