Challenge: Which was the first demoscene demo?

category: residue [glöplog]
OK, I think Bitscëner has successfully made the point that he's unaware of any demoscene before 1990, so evidently it didn't exist. We can close the thread now guys.

I am fully aware of a parallell cracking scene with games, which was completely uninteresting to the phenomena that was called scene later. Anyone interested in this phenomena, should correct their knowledge if they didn´t already know.
I wouldnt say that. While its true that most people active in the _demo_scene give a flying fuck about warez and cracking there always have been ties between the two and also groups which are active in both departments (Fairlight, Razor, Hoodlum come to mind, theres probably a lot more).

especially in the early 90s there was a HUGE overlap between the two scenes. "the scene" never was demos-only. and it still isnt.

You musn´t be so critical. Rhesus Minus / CRB might go gay. Infact, I think he actually made this as a gay sexual daemon. So comfort him those who can.

Basically scener way of telling someone they love them, and can hide their closet gayhood.
So basically they were setup by crackers, and the demoscene only party of CRB was busted. So we know they were separate scenes. So that is the story behind it, and all the hate of BJ Electronics.

And then ofcourse 94 Amiga went bankrupt, and the whole scene faded. And unfortunately in the mean time, the excellent Atari Falcon was not noticed in the Amiga hype, which was surreal. Quite ahead in terms of DSP: lSpeed Of Time

Not that I didn´t already have my Amiga connected to external gear though. ;)

PBWY.
I think that the origins of what we call "demos" lie in the works of these late 1960s / early 70s Scanimate pioneers. Introduction to the Scanimate Part 1.
That style of graphics really took of when the necessary equipment became available to the masses in the late 70ies / early 80ies (home computers), and has been ever-evolving since then.

I remember Silicon Graphics was a big influence, with realtime graphics. I think even Amiga claimed to have realtime graphics functionality, and was indeed a low-jitter system.

Some of the graphics demos on the times SGI are indeed similar..
So you see cracking was different, that trying to do SGI inspired graphics on Amiga. And that is often how the "demoscene" viewed cracking, which often simply was about removing a JMP, and inserting a JSR #intro.
My first place on TG92 Light, inspired by my cat clawing me on the toe, waking me to bike to school.

Scene seems much to be about the highpoints of this amigaculture which I was a part of. There are no more of the (user)groups I was in though. So I have indeed just added Scener to my name, and 2000, to indicate history a bit more. Perfectly fitting.

Peace!

@Bit Scener 2000: I had an SGI Iris workstation in the mid 90ies! (was a donation) Great machine but I sold it to buy a PC.

The cracker scene sure was a core part of / interwoven with the "demo scene" back in the early days ( e.g. Crystal ) but nowadays, they are pretty much on their own.
On the topic of cracks, check out this young whippersnapper defeating the Denuvo (v4) protection. The Serious Sam devs like him, that's good enough for me!
(and no, I haven't used cracks in a very long time, I just find things like that utterly fascinating)

ok, that frog was awesome but here's the actual link (that guy's been at it since he was 15 and now he's 21. According to him, he's not fluent in any HL or VHL languages, but he sure has mastered x64 assembly!)

bsp: No they are completely different people as the JMP/JSR ritual would indicate, vs coding indie stuff, and making actual (not gameoriented) music on the Amiga was. And they, as I said were not really friends either, as the CRB ambush indicates.

I know, as I said, I had top placements in this culture, and later also pushed my DSP, so I really was one of those guys.

But yeah SGI was fun in its time, a dream, and now similar graphics achievable with a low-jitter OS, such as my OpenBSD "Fair Pay In Cyberspace" project.

Peace.
Throughout my journeys (hobby + professionally), I've come across and have collaborated with some of these "crackers" and all I can say is that I regard them highly. They know their sh*t from the ground up, exactly the kind of people you want on your team!

Peace!

If Nerve is around: Amstedam Café
I think I should have been clear enough now. Anyone else is full of shit. Ofcourse PC Scene often was. Billy Idol Gates.

You really don´t listen do you. What kind of faggots sit around here, and pretend to be scene. You know nothing.
DUDE. Do you want me to stick a big stash of fucking pills in you? Overdose now?
FAGGOT.
FUCKING DIE.
