Best demoparty to travel to?

category: parties [glöplog]
Hello again!

I've been wanting to go see a demoparty this year, but I sadly had to miss Revision, and it doesn't look like I can hit Assembly either.

Since I'm coming from America, I want to hit something big. In everyone's opinion what is the next biggest demoparty to those two?

I had a few in mind, but I don't know how populated they are:
Solskogen
deadline
evoke

Any of those worth crossing the pond for? Revision was awesome last year, sad I had to miss it this year.

Also:
Does Winter Assembly have demos? I know it's a big thing at summer assembly, but all I see is E-sports for winter assembly.

Evoke is the biggest one (3-400) of those, Solskogen and Deadline are around the same size (100-150).

Not as far as I know.

Winter Assembly is e-sports and gaming only, Summer Assembly has demos with e-sports and gaming.

numtek: maaaaybe not the best suited on a <2weeks notice from overseas?

Nova? It's in the middle of no where and a pain to travel to!
If you can make it to Nova it's a great unique demoparty. Nice location, beach party, floppy disc throwing compo, great people and great demos.

But seriously not been to Solskogen or deadline but from what I have seen and heard they are great parties.
Been to Evoke a couple times it's the biggest party outside Revision and a great party. I would differently recommend going to Evoke if you can.

Well,. he did asked for the best. In general this will mean Outline. If you're going into details I guess Evoke is the biggest, Function has the best releases and Outline is the best overall experience. I might be a tad bit biased though. Not sure. Maybe.

+1 for evoke
having that said: if you want to get to know people, consider smaller parties.

Yep, Revision with all of its action taking place in many places at the same time can get overwhelming pretty easily...as a first party i also recommend a smaller party first!

And not only because it´s my favourite party, but because it is easily worth to travel the pond i also recommend Evoke!
-> many people (300-600)
-> cozy atmosphere, so you can make new friends easily
-> good competitions
-> flawless organizing (will be the 21st time they arrange that Party! ;) )
-> 3 Days + prEvoke (one day extra in a hacker-space the day before Evoke starts, feel free to come early and join us there already, a thread about it should appear here on pouet in some weeks/months)
I never met anyone yet that disliked Evoke after having been there! :)
Will take place in August again, here´s a fred!

If this time doesn´t work for you, Function/Outline/Solskogen/Deadline/Nordlicht/Under_Construction are all about the same size participant-wise, they are all worth it for sure, as far as i heard! (never made it to one of them myself sadly!)

I wouldn´t recommend Assembly or Gathering...that´s thousands of gamers and it could get hard to meet someone specific...also a real demoscene-only-party is way different than them are! ;)
All parties are worth visiting, each has its unique flavour.
Better state what´s most important for you so we can provide better advice.

In case you can get a week off you could also combine two parties (e.g., Riverwash and Function).

Honestly Evoke is what you should aim for. If assembly is not an option, Evoke is simply the biggest left for this year.
I’m biased too and will therefore mention Trsac in Denmark in October - also in the 150 visitor range. And we do have pepperschnapps!

How about Flashparty in Buenos Aires?. I have no idea about the party but would love to attend if I could. :D

In case European parties are the thing then I'd consider some established "demoscene mainly" parties (and size doesn't really matter... doesn't it?) in order of party dates: Outline, Simulaatio, Solskogen, Evoke, Riverwash, Function, Deadline

In case you like some more oldskool wibes then, f.e., Datastorm or X could be the thing.

after submitting the post I realized that some other established parties were omitted from the list, sorry about that Nordlicht&TRSAC&co - Every party is awesome! :-)

that's not a selling point, more a right of passage!

While of course TRSAC is the best and the rightful heir to any kind of thing, I will second Evoke as being a great option both with regards to size, releases, weather and friendliness.

Of course its kind of big but dude has been to Revision already and wanted more, so lets not send him to the ass of Europe where five fat guys in leather are having a knitting competition as the main event.

OUTLINE IS A GREAT PARTY AND YOU BETTER SHOW UP THIS TIME!

(but yeah, come to Evoke!)

If you're into C64, got to X. It's the biggest C64-only party (~270 visitors) and it's purely scene oriented. http://www.scs-trc.net/x2018

I have to admit that this seems to be the best thing ever.

Leaning towards deadline at the moment, just because I haven't hit Berlin. Still weighing evoke though, Koln is awesome too.

I wonder why Russia doesn't have a decent demo party? You'd think St. Petersburg would be on that.

They do though.

Since no Swedes are ever on Pouet since at least 10 years back you don't hear much about it, but Edison is a really nice summer party (I am completely without bias of course). Typically around ~150 visitors, organized yearly since 2011: https://edisonparty.com/

But, Solskogen is nice. Everyone should go there at least once.

Warm recommendation for Deadline. It may not be one of the biggest, but still real great with friendly people, solid organizing and quality compos. (But of course I'm biased as it takes place real close to my home)
