Demobit 2018 Resonation - 2-4 February 2018 - Binarium, Bratislava, Slovakia
category: parties [glöplog]
it was great yes
I didn't expect so many entries in demo compo, and the quality was very high.
So minor organizing issues like:
1. no notifications before compos(the demo compo will start in 15 minutes), it allways helps to handle delays between events.
2. the main stage was too small for so many people and sometimes it was too loud in first 5 rows.
3. it was very unconvinient to find a power socket.
4. when you vote on vote.demobit.party you have to save "additionaly" with a special SAVE button, and now I am not sure if I unsave some of my votes.
the rest were very very YES, a lot of cool people, hard-parting - no chance to see the city ;)

As Zden knows I was unable to cast my votes since the "Vote" button did not appear after I logged in. I am a bit disappointed that both of my entries placed last in the public voting since objectively both the photo and the 256 byte intro were quite good and they also got good places in the preselection.
Other than that, as said, it was an awesome party. I particularly enjoyed the presentations by Rrrola, Gargaj and Smash (Smash: you should make presentations at demoscene parties far more often so that sceners learn to speak proper English!), and I enjoyed meeting in person and talking to people such as Zden, Natalia, Shakul, Aceman, Fei, Suhans, Blala, Warhead, Bacter, TomCat, Vickey, Picard and the others whose names I do not know or fail to recall.
It has been a great time. My most sincere respect to the organizers. See you again next year.

I've realized I forgot to mention Citrus and Reg. Sorry for that!
Ah, and Havoc.
I also forgot Nagz and Keen. Sorry.
And Ronny.
Results file please? it's just one button in wuhu to save it.
I was present at the party but still don't know a few our releases results.

Looks like it was a good party. Shame I couldn't be there, due to unavoidable family restrictions :-(, I wanted to meet Adok in real life.. maybe next time
I will most certainly be a regular visitor of Demobit every time it is held, and I might be attending a couple of other parties this year as well, such as Riverwash. So there are plenty of opportunoties to meet me.
What a party! The place was great. Thumbs up for good food on the party place. Awesome atmosphere, I finally managed to meet and chat with some of you guys. One of the best parties for me!
There's something unique about the atmosphere and hospitality of Demobit orgas and I'm not writing it just because everybody was so nice to me because of my birthday :). I also noticed many improvements over the last year: smoother compo flow, great scheduling and timing of events, incredibly nice and resourceful orga and Binarium staff.
What could be improved:
- announcements before compos, as mentioned above. I missed several beginnings due to that.
- better screen with sound in the bar area. The main area was very crowded and it was difficult to find a spot there, while the second screen was badly aligned and you could only hear the main audio system (so bass).
- audio was too loud, the bass literarily hurt during gigs if you were sitting in the front rows.
- sleeping areas were much worse than last year: smaller and without ventilation. If you can't do anything about that, at least warn people to think about hotels.
- prizegiving at 12 is a bad idea. If you travel by train or plane, you usually can't choose to stay that late.
Still, Demobit was one of the best parties I've recently been to (which is around 50, I think). You're just gaining speed!
Also, Zden didn't look dead like he had last year. I guess teamwork was the reason ;-)

What Fei said.
Adding to the above:
Tons of good memories here. See you on Revision, Riverwash and - hopefully - Demobit 2019 Escalation!*
* - speaking of awesomeness of the party, it escalated quickly!
Adding to the above:
- The Demo and Animation/video competitions shined incredibly bright this year. The quality of releases was outstanding; I was amazed to see so many good works!
- I would like to send huuuge personal hugs for the Czech guys from ArtWay for delivering an Amiga release second year in a row, at the same time being so patient and laid-back about combining it with PC entries. (To the other Amiga groups out there: don't be so shy in 2019, and let us finally see a proper Amiga executable compo :))
- It was my pleasure and honour to help the Demobit Team during the compos. Guys and gals, you were awesome, and did a massive, good job.
- While mentioned previously, I'd like to once again stress this out: the bass and general audio levels during most of the competitions were way too high for my taste. I heard similar complaints from quite a lot of people (both composers and audience). The PA system itself, however, was way better this year. That being said, it's my only real complaint.
- Had a chance to ride Tesla for the first time. Woot! :D
- Thank you for all the hospitality, talks, ciggies (Zden <3), sausage (Maugli <3), slivovica (Laila <3), transport and crashing (Citrus <3) and partying together.

Thank you lovely orgas for pulling this off! <3 Zd3n, Natalia, Magda – everybody! Great venue, great food & atmosphere, all the lovely folks I was able to chat with.
Will provide the brutalist set shortly!

rp: please do, it was amazing!
+1 for wanting Ronny's set. it was really next level
about the party: given the fact it was the first non-hungarian demoparty i visited since 2002's mekka&symposium, i don't have much basis to compare Demobit on. But if i look at all the .HU parties in recent years, Demobit was a very, very pleasant surprise for me. You guys did many things we here at home can only learn from :)
simply put: the party was MUCH better than i initially expected
naturally there is always room for improvement, and i don't want to come through too critical. my impression was really positive. that being said, here are a few, and - again - VERY small things i think could've helped:
- talky crowds are fun, but i heard some people complaining that they couldn't hear much of the presentations (especially Smash's) because of people chatting inside and outside the compo hall. i would probably enforce a "please be considerate, stay quiet" rule inside the compo hall and separate the main room from the front area during the presentations
- i found the ceiling lights a bit annoying in the left side of the compo hall (where the gaming area was), but after a few minutes my brain just tuned it out :)
- compo announcement, as others said, should be more prominent
- combined PC intro compo: it was a bit strange that we didn't know whether we are watching a 4k or 64k... maybe displaying this info on the slides would have resulted in a better voting experience.
- The Submit button at the bottom of the WuHu Vote page had me baffled too but i memorized it's there :)
- I felt really, really sorry for the infodesk team having to run up to the top floor whenever anyone wanted to access the sleeping room area. I helped it by going up as sparsely as possible and I know it's Binarium's security policy. I just hope next year Binarium will be lenient enough that they let Demobit orgas hang a card there for anyone to use, so the infoteam can focus on running the party downstairs.
- What happened to the announcer mic? :)
- My personal opinion: having the music competition on separate day was a bit strange. I think the gfx / photo compo could have been there instead, but that's just me..
Everything else: the orga team nailed it!
expect me again next year :)

+ Obligatory THANK YOU for the slivovica! I think it made up pretty much for the friday beer problem ;)))
There is a party report about Demobit 2018 in Genycs #1: http://www.21stcenturyheadlines.com/genycs/genycs01/demobit%202018.htm
Tomcat was at the party? Hungarian Tomcat?
Not Tomcat, TomCat.
I think Archee was, tomcat/Abaddon (TomCatAbaddon) ussual guest at Function
it was very funny to see:
tomcat
archee
digimind
...together at function after compos, they were speaking about 256bytes for several hours ;)))
and Demobit was very hungarian party ;) at all, but polish majority is always win and it is hard to determine where are they from when you hear "Kurwa!" everywhere ;).

I've just arrived home, what a nice party it was!
Like other people, I didn't like the sound level, lack of the announcements and the background talks during the seminars. Also, some small speakers at the back bigscreen would totally improve the experience. Personally, I found the food prices to be quite expensive comparing to other parts of Slovakia but it's rather related to the party being held in a capitol city.
Having said that... all those things are pretty much minor comparing to how awesome the party was - orgas were helpful and very, very nice, they were responding to any issues as fast as possible and in fact there weren't any big issues (at least visible for us) to start with.
I was rather scared seeing that there were only two toilet cabins in the male toilet and throughout the party i was nicely surprised seeing how clean they were all the time. Big respect for recognising how important this aspect is.
Sleeping - indeed, the upstairs area was pretty small but the floor downstairs under my desk was perfect and comfy :-) Upstairs shower was clean and I was lucky to not to queue in front of it.
Big thanks to all the orgas for doing a really great job. Sign me in for Demobit 2019 please!
ps. let's not talk about the beer incident, there is absolutely no shame in underestimating how much sceners are able to consume :-) (just kidding, I know it wasn't really orgas' fault)
