Demonights 004 in Bern/Switzerland (February 3rd, 2018)

We do it again :) Time to get back on tracks with the next edition of the DEMONIGHTS. Raise up the volume and be dazzled with a best-of-demoshows for 2017 and with the new ...

As a Demonights firstie, we will hold a small contest. Watch and get inspired. Get creative, produce, compete! All submissions to this competition will be shown in order of $random and the audience votes on a winner. We will have a prize, too.
Your production must consist of 1 single audiovisual effect, one per participant. Pick your best one and submit, if and only if it is:
1) An original production, newly made for the compo.
2) To be shown during a maximum of 1 minute playtime.
3) Optionally accompanied by sound/music, overlays and text.
4) A Windows or Linux executable, a JavaScript thingie or GIF animation, or even something running on hardware you bring along.
5) Has no size limits, no platform limits. If your platform does not support HDMI, let us know beforehand so we can figure out how to show it on the bigscreen.
Furthermore:
* The compo crew reserves the right to disqualify entries that are too unserious, boring, bad, or contain racist, pornographic, disturbing or otherwise illegal content.
* Your submission will be released to the public after the Demonights, unless you clearly tell us not to.
* If the rules are too constraining for your idea, let us know and we'll discuss and/or improvise.
The awesome E-0010 space in the undergrounds of Bern has been improved again, and now comes with a sweet new flooring, comfy furniture and even a kids corner if you feel like bringing your youngsters along - parental discretion advised. So get down to the demoshow and let's soak in the scene spirit!

Entrance: CHF 10.- to cover costs (please deposit in tip-jar)
Where: Effingerstrasse 10, Bern. Underground -2
Ideally reachable by public transport, 5 minute walk from the main station in Bern; No parking on site: please use nearby designated city parking houses (City West).
We will have some drinks & snacks available (again via tip-jar) on location.

Question: How "on point" are you starting? Will we miss most of the demoshow / entry submission if we showed up 0.5-1h late?

@Paralax: Great to hear you'll be coming - and sorry for not replying here in time. I'm kind of busy with <things> and simply forgot to check Pouet. The evening does not have a strict schedule and things will happen spontaneous, also depending on when people show and so on. We will probably start with a few demos at around 20:00, having the compo at 21:00 (which would also be the deadline, more or less) and then continue with demos, while still having enough breaks and time between demos to be able to chat. To me, meeting people there is at least as important as watching demos (#1 lessons learned from previous Demonights with too tight programmes and too much going on all the time).

I like the idea of the compo and would also vote for the return of ohp at a later event!
Who knows, cxw - the proposed compo doesn't actually disallow OHP *hint* ;-)

The other weekend, we had a really great evening at Effinger: Demonights 004 were visited by a good amount of people and we had a fun time watching demos and having a beer. Also, for the first time, we held a competition at the Demonights. It's been called "One Effect Competition", and the idea was to keep it low key and simple to take part. We didn't expect to have many entries and were really surprised having 6 contributions! We have finally uploaded all the productions to scene.org and added them to Pouet at https://www.pouet.net/party.php?which=1835. Please note that, following our own rules, two contributions are not released to the public (and as such were a Demonights 004 exclusive feature ;-)). We plan to have the next Demonights (and compo) somewhen at the end of April or beginning of May. We'll let you know :)
