Better late than never? Anyway, following up on this, I am delighted to announce a new micro-demoparty/demoscene outreach!
Softbound 1 will take place this Saturday at the Avon Free Library in Avon, NY (US). If you have a Niagara Falls or Finger Lakes trip planned this weekend, stop by! We have 15 kids signed up, which is as many as the partyplace will hold with computers (there's room for more people, but not for more consoles). The library personnel have been great, and the IT director for the library system is an old C64 and Amigaaaaaah guy.
Features: livecoding demonstration, demos on the mediumscreen, open coding time, free wifi
This is an experiment. If it goes well, I will probably see if I can do something similar again. At the very least, it's given me a reason to learn a lot more about OpenGL :) .

Well, that's a surprise! But a lot of music/demo sceners, including myself, came from upstate NY in the 90s.. I think the crappy winters and lack of much else to do played a part. :) It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a show and maybe get some more young'uns interested.

It happened! It went well! The main machine had two BSODs right before the party and now has no network drivers!
I was able to show videos using a backup machine, but unfortunately our special mystery guests will remain a mystery for now. I have released the livecoding tool I built for the party; source is up now and binaries will follow.
All the kids had a great time, and I had a good conversation with a father and son who are considering joining the scene now that they know it exists :) .
