Making-of Logon's run - 3D meets the aging bits
category: code [glöplog]
Making-of Logon's run - 3D meets the aging bits is out and it's entitled The Elder's Scrollers.
Go to NoRecess website to read, watch & download.
Most of the animations are based on pre-rendered animations within 64K VRAM.
What is seen on-screen is a 24K overscan window (sc)rolling on those 64K.
The 3D gameboy is based on same trick used for that Bat-logo in Batman Forever - hi Rhino!
It has some different features, such as: 25s. hidden precalculation done by the CPC.
If you dare not to read the whole making-of, you might just download that dsk.
This is a special build of the demo - to show what should not been seen.
Hope you'll enjoy those things behing the scene!

very interesting anyway.

Proper effect coding! The Gameboy thing is my favourite.
Awesome write-up. While watching the demo I had to think of these strobe-light sculptures https://vimeo.com/116582567 and I think it is very clever to extend it to two dimensions like you did. This is really a technique I have to keep in mind. I also like the use of the palette to hide the precalc. As I don't know anything about the CPC hardware such a write-up is a great way to appreciate the demo even more.
Nice story. Thanks! :-D
Splendid writeup, thanx!

Thanks!
Cool article! Extreme hw scrolling!
@jix about strobe-light sculptures: nice find! thanks for the link.
On 8-bit platforms? I have in mind some similar trick from Bandwagon on MSX1 (such as this one). I was and I am still impressed by this fx with two layers and some vertical moves.
