Interested in a compo for a scene outreach to kids?

category: parties [glöplog]
I am trying to put together the world's smallest demoparty at a public library in my area. If I can get the partyplace, would you be willing to shoot me a remote entry? I'd love to tell parents they could bring their kids to a world premiere of computer-animated short films.

Date will be late July or early August; place will be upstate New York, USA. Take a mental break from your Evoke entries and give me something that will show the kids the scene is the place to be!

One compo: combined pc demo/intro. Prizes for local or remote entries - no cash, but at least a cool plaque. :) Win7 x64, and probably a 1050 or 1060. Can run from the shell or in-browser; max 5 minutes given the attention span of the target audience.

Reply below, or send me a pm on necta, cvgm, or demozoo slack, if you are interested. I expect to find out next week if I can get the venue, and will post updates as soon as I have them. Thank you!

dates?

ps: I'm waiting to hear from library management about available dates. I am asking in parallel about interest so I can plan accordingly if nobody wants to enter :) .

pohar: nice! First demo for the graphicians? ;) I bet they enjoyed being involved. Certainly within the scope. I also enjoy (and know kids who enjoy) https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=53586 and https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=17088.

Somehow, I don't think cxw means pre-schoolers, pohar.

Foebane: I certainly don't expect preschoolers to sit through the whole compo :) . However, there will probably be some in attendance! I am going to collect votes as :) :| :( rather than numbers just in case.

ps: I forget to mention - it won't be Solskogen or Evoke weekends, if that's the concern.

He did a lot of coloring, we couldn't store the huge pile of papers. So I thought of scanning them, then I opened a demotool, and the rest is history. I mean next-to-last place at the local demo compo :)

pohar: my first demo also came in next-to-last. But out of three, so it worked out well :) .

At The Alternative Party 2010 there were some kidros (demos for kids) as well: I think for example these:http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=56113 and http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=56111

It's more for preschoolers again, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have some look at those.

Don't mean to be the party pooper, but realistically, if you're going for the compo path you'll likely end up with not-so-great-content and a very dissatisfied audience. I think you'd be smart to focus on kids' interests and tastes instead of marketing lingo that *maybe* sounds "impressive" to adults (though I would probably rather consider some random dude who claims to organize "world premieres" for local youth at the library as "creepy").

That's not to say there's no merit in showing kids demos. Just that I'd go for showing them the best and most suitable content the scene has to offer. It'll be just as brand new to them as that proposed "world premiere" and the quality of the show would be much higher. Why you would insist on previously unreleased content for an audience that doesn't care at all about the release status of what they'll be watching is beyond me.

In any case, good luck with this project :)

then again, for kids is not the same as by kids... i reckon as a kid, i'd enjoy Cocoon - Glon a lot more than cheesy kid demos :)
p01: 11 and under

Maali: agreed!

havoc: fair point, and this is definitely an experiment :) . I like the premiere feeling at a demoparty, and would like to share that feeling if possible. Whence this thread! If there's not enough interest from the scene, I'll fall back to a demoshow. (And this will have the imprimatur of the children's librarian if it happens, so I don't think parents will be creeped out.)

all: thanks for the recommendations! Some new ones and some old favorites. :)
